FALL IN THE SISKIYOU MOUNTAINS OF NORTHWESTERN

FALL IN THE
SISKIYOU MOUNTAINS
OF
NORTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA
October 9–12, 2015
A special trip to benefit the Regional
Parks Botanic Garden
offered by the Friends of the Regional Parks Botanic
Garden
The Siskiyou Mountains are a meeting place and melting pot of botanical diversity, where plants from the Sierra,
Cascade Mountains, and North Coast Ranges converge in an explosion of fascinating forms. Although the main period
of bloom is over, cold nights paint the leaves of aspens, cottonwoods, maples, huckleberries, roses, and azaleas in vivid
hues. This is a rare opportunity to visit this special place at the end of the growing season and learn to recognize the
numerous trees and shrubs. We’ll explore the famed Cook and Green Pass, home to some of California’s greatest
diversity next to the Oregon border; visit the base of Mt. Eddy, home to alpines and meadow plants; and make the easy
walk to Cedar Lake, where insectivorous plants and the rare Port Orford cedar (Chamaecyparis lawsoniana) live.
