BRISTLECONE PINES AND WILDFLOWERS IN THE WHITE MOUNTAINS AND THE EAST SIDE OF THE SIERRA July 2–6, 2015 A special trip to benefit the Regional Parks Botanic Garden offered by the Friends of the Regional Parks Botanic Garden The White Mountains tower above the Owens Valley, while on its west side the valley is bordered by the wall of the high eastern Sierra, making Bishop a spectacular setting for a jump-off point. Because of our location, we’ll be able to drive into the White Mountains some days to see the ancient bristlecone pine forests and alpine fellfields, other days into the canyons and lakes on the east side of the Sierra, both wonderful places to a see a wide array of trees and especially mountain wildflowers. Highlights will include a hike up to Long Lake directly east of Bishop, a 4-mile loop through the oldest of the bristlecone pines, and a car tour across the different zones and elevations of the White Mountains. We’ll also stop on the way home in Yosemite National Park to see mountain meadows and alpine vegetation.
