New Sports Uniform
The Home and School Committee, along with the school
administration are currently looking at changing the existing
school sports uniform. The aim is to change the current design to
a more modern and durable look and fabric. It is envisaged that
the new uniform will be introduced later this year. There will be
a substantial transitional period where students will be able to
wear the old uniform. Keep an eye out in future newsletters for
further details and a sneak peek at the new uniform design.

Year 9 Art excursion
Last Wednesday our Year 9 Art
students visited Montsalvat in
Eltham armed and poised with
their cameras, ready to put their
newly learned photography skills
to use. Montsalvat is Australia’s
oldest artists’ community, set amid
unique grounds and buildings, a place
where art is made, taught, exhibited,
performed and celebrated.
Our students had an amazing day and
as always were inspired by the beauty of
Montsalvat. Thank you to Mr Howard for
organising this excursion and for inspiring
our Art students.
GRIP Leadership • GRIP Leadership
GRIP Leadership Conference
by Gabby Bennet
On Tuesday the 11th of March, Mrs James led a group of student
leaders; Ella, Amy, Josh, Crystal, Bailey, Jack, Brodie, Jorge,
Natalie, Karla and myself to the G.R.I.P leadership conference
at the Melbourne exhibition centre. We began the day with a
group lecture on building the DNA of great leadership where we
explored the tangible concepts and effectiveness of goal setting,
respect, contribution, accountability and true belief.
There were plenty of entertaining activities scattered throughout
the conference to keep us engaged and to break up the lectures.
In the following session we learnt about making the most of
leadership opportunities and standing up for what is right and
what is true, not just what is easy. We learnt about the balance of
standing up for others and standing up for ourselves. We were
then given the opportunity to select electives that were
applicable to the skills we chose to strengthen us such as
the maximization of events and the maximization of
communication. Followed by, how to lead in different situations
and how to maintain momentum in leadership.
The conference empowered us, the young student leaders at
NCC to strengthen both the directive and the supportive aspects
of our leadership and has excited us for effective service.

National Young Leaders Day
National Young Leaders Day is a program
run each year for primary school leaders to
encourage, inspire and impart skills in
leadership. The theme this year was
“GET STARTED”, and the catch phrase was
“Nothing significant, enduring or
amazing ever began that way.” Our 12
school captains, vice captains and house
captains attended this year and we were
thrilled to hear our guest speakers:
• Bindi Irwin - Australia Zoo
• Jess Gallagher - Gold medalist in
Para Olympics
• Andy Griffiths - Children’s author
• Coen Ashton - Double lung transplant
recipient, and Donar Organ campaigner
For me, the introduction of these
speakers was the most inspirational.
Mr Mike Martin, Executive Director of the
Halogen Foundation, spoke about the
human body and the individual cells that
make up the body - blood cells, brain cells,
lung cells, heart cells, skin cells and many
more. These cells know exactly what their
function is and they do it well. But they
didn’t start out that way. These cells all
started out as stem cells - from
conception, humans grow from stem cells.
These stem cells have all the necessary
information to grow a human being, but as
they replicate and multiply, and grow,
they must decide what they will become blood cells, brain cells, lung cells…
you get the picture.
Mr Martin introduced the four guest speakers as high functioning, successful cells and then, he told the 4,300 11-12 year olds
who were present, that they were stem
cells - and the only difference between
them and these four successful cells was
TIME and CHOICES. Each child present
had the necessary information to become
successful leaders in their chosen field - it
was just a matter of time and making good
choices.
Our 12 leaders - Nathan, Danielle, Alanna,
Lian, Elizabeth, Darcy, Nick, Kelzey,
Favian, Amity, Sally-Anne and Joel thoroughly enjoyed the day. A big thank
you to Mrs Jenny Michaelson for helping to
provide transport.

Need a New Mower?!
Are you thinking of upgrading your lawn
mower to a newer version? If so, the Home
& School Metal2Metal collection in the last
week of term would love to have your old
mower! All metal items such as mowers,
household goods, metal food cans and
even old cars can be brought along to help
us raise money to buy things for the school
that YOUR child will benefit from. So for
the next couple of weeks it would be great
if you could collect your tin cans instead of
throwing them in the recycle bin and hunt
around your house for anything you can
bring along to the skip bin that will be in
the Secondary carpark as of
Monday 23rd March.

AFL Goalposts
Finally our school oval has AFL goalposts! After much coaxing from our
students (and some parents), they
can now play Aussie rules football on
our oval, in addition to soccer. As we
will be adding AFL to our sporting line
up at the secondary school this year,
this is a timely installation. We would
like to thank our Home and School
Committee for providing funds to pay
for the goalposts, along with Mr Tony
Harrison who donated the profits from
the school canteen towards this
project. The Home and School
committee will also be funding barrier
netting behind the goalposts that will
prevent balls going on to the road.
NCC Wantirna Seventh-day Adventist Church Service
On Saturday the 14th of March students
from our primary and secondary school
coordinated the worship service at
Wantirna Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Our students led out in congregational
singing, special items, prayer, children’s
story and preaching. The Wantirna church
community were blessed and expressed
their heartfelt thanks many times, praising our
students for their service.
We would like to thank all our wonderful students,
their families, our teachers and chaplains for putting
together such an inspirational program and
reminding us through their creativity and unique
gifts that the Name of Jesus has Power.

Some thoughts from the Primary School Chaplain –
If you need to contact us for any reason, please email, [email protected]; [email protected]
Have you been robbed?
Have you ever been sucked into a negativity vortex? A conversation full of complaints and character assassinations. You want to
appear sympathetic, so you listen and attempt to ‘understand’ the
point of view of the speaker. You realise that there are two sides
to every story, and you try to use this as a filter as you listen. Inevitably, you walk away feeling emotionally depleted, inexplicably
angry and depressed.
You’ve been robbed! Your joy stolen!
Our value this week in Primary, is Joyfulness. In the Bible, the
concept of joy is serious business. It’s not a superficial warm and
fuzzy kind of feeling. It is not ‘happiness’. It is not fickle – here
today, gone tomorrow. Joy, is a fruit of the Spirit (Galations 5:22)
and it comes from being fully connected to the Vine (Jesus). It is a
state of being that is a constant and stable mode of operation. It is
resilient and endures hardship (James 1:2-4).
So, how can we have this joy?
The Bible tells us in Psalm 16:11 that ‘in His presence is fullness of
joy.’ If you want joy in your life, you need to get into the presence
of Jesus. He is the only one who can fill you with joy.
Remember, joy is a fruit of the Spirit. Fruit can’t be obtained or
borrowed or given. Fruit grows. Fruit must be nurtured. The fruit of
the Spirit comes by abiding in the Vine. Jesus said, “I am the vine;
you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will
produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” John
15:5
So if you feel like your joy tank is running low, and you’re grumpy
and complaining, get into the presence of Jesus today. Spend time
in conversation with and praise to your Creator. Let His joy and
peace settle into your being, and just watch negativity bounce off
you… robbery is not an option!
