An ancient battle cry has become the
theme and motto for NCC secondary
students in 2015. Its origins are an
encouragement given by God to the
people of Israel as they prepared to
face challenges of identity, bravery and
personal commitment. Preparing for
conflict, for hard work or for leadership:
Go in God’s strength. Be strong in Him,
let God fight for you, He goes ahead of
you…
As this year’s Week of Worship opened,
our speaker Ray Moaga took the message of this battle cry to talk about living
without fear. “God has not given us a
spirit of fear and timidity,” Ray quoted
from 2 Timothy, “But a spirit of power
Rak Chazak!
(to overcome), of love (to resist anger
and hatred), and of a sound mind
(self control and straight thinking).”
During the week, students heard
testimonies and stories from their peers
and teachers, which reflected on God’s
strength from their different personal
experiences. With the Chapel Band
leading worship music and special
items from students and staff, as well as
moments of prayer and reflection - the
daily Chapel time created a window in
each day to think about life differently.
The goal is for this thinking to translate
to every day in every student’s life.

Clean Up
Australia Day
Last Friday was Clean Up Australia Day
for schools. The program has been
running for 25 years. The children in
P/1 and 1/2 collected rubbish from the
creek that flows between the school and
Advent Care Whitehorse. Participating in
this community program was a practical
way for us to demonstrate our support
for caring for the environment. The
children had such a good time that they
can’t wait to go back and do it again.
Parent/Teacher
Interviews
Primary and secondary parent teacher interviews are scheduled for
Tuesday 17th March. The primary school interviews will run from
3.30pm-8.00pm and each appointment is ten minutes. Please
ensure you arrive on time for your appointment and finish on time.
If you require longer than the allotted ten minutes, please arrange
for another appointment time. To make a booking, log on to
www.schoolinterviews.com.au and enter Event code: VVCN3.
The secondary school interviews will run from 4.00pm-8.00pm and
each appointment is five minutes. The efficient running of our
secondary school interviews relies on parents arriving promptly for
their appointments. Please also ensure that you adhere to the five
minute time limit for each of your appointments. To make a booking
for secondary school teachers, log on to www.schoolinterviews.com.

Ride2School Day
Students, parents and teachers can cycle, walk, skate or scoot to
school on national Ride2School day on March 15th.
Last year more than 300,000 participants were involved across Australia and the Whitehorse council is backing the March 15th event
as a wonderful opportunity for people to see how much fun it is for
kids to ride to school.
As we have communicated in the
past, Nunawading Christian College
has engaged an architect to outline a
ten year master plan to fully refurbish
the school facilities. Stage 1 of this
plan has seen the inclusion of the full
sized school oval and tennis courts to
our facilities, the new parent car park
and the upgrade to the secondary
school quadrangle. Stage 2 was the
wonderful refurbishment of the primary
school classrooms that our students
and teachers are currently enjoying.
We are ready to move on to the next
stage of this plan which includes
further refurbishment to the existing
secondary classrooms. Specifically,
this year we plan to replace the old
windows in the upper level of these
classrooms as well as an upgrade to the
secondary school library. The school
administration has been hard at work
obtaining funding to complete these
works. However, we would benefit
greatly from financial assistance from
our families to supplement the funding
we have received and therefore push
these plans forward. If any of our
families would like to make a donation
toward our building works it would be
gratefully appreciated. All donations to
the building fund are tax deductible and
a tax receipt will be issued. Thank you.
Early Learning Centre Now Open
We are thrilled to announce that the NCC Early Learning Centre
(ELC) officially opened its doors on Monday the 2nd of March.
the school basketball court, and experimenting with colours
through painting.
Session times are:
Six excited new "students" arrived on the first day and we are
so happy to have these new children and their families join the
NCC community.
This week our children have been learning each others names,
working on their fine motor skills and literacy by singing songs
such as 'Where is Thumbkin' and 5 cheeky monkey's'. They
have also been learning a morning prayer, 'The lords prayer'.
The children have spent some time playing running races on
9:00am -11:30am 3 Year old kinder
9:00am - 2:00pm 4 Year old kinder
Both sessions run five days a week with a modified program to
meet the needs of the 3 year olds.
We look forward to seeing the ELC grow. Any questions please
contact our ELC teacher Jessica Taylor.

Time to Spring Clean
Galaxy
Play Dough
On Friday, our classes (Year 5/6 and Year 6) made our prep
buddies some play dough, with glitter to make it look like
stars. We are currently learning about the Solar System so it
was kind-of educational. It also helped us to get to know our
little buddies a bit more because when we gave them the play
dough, well... they loved it and us! Especially play dough with
glitter. It was a squeeze in the prep classroom, but it was a
room full of happiness!

Yes, it is officially Autumn, but the NCC Home & School
Committee would love it if you could go through your house
and garden and have a spring clean. In the last week of
Term 1 there will be another Metal2Metal collection where
we’d like you to bring along all those unwanted items in your
house, garden and garage that are made of metal. There will
be a big skip in the Secondary car park waiting to devour all
your bits and pieces, for which the school receives an excellent
commission.
To get you started you could: throw all your (clean) tin cans in
a bag to bring along; go through your baking cupboards and
take out all those cake tins etc that clutter up the space; get
out old computers and equipment that’s made of metal; and
hunt through your garden shed for metal tools and machinery
that you don’t need anymore.
Any items, large or small, that you can collect and bring along
in the last week of term will be gratefully accepted - and the
heavier the item, the more money we get for it!
Thank you in anticipation for your support of this fundraiser.
New Picnic Tables
We would also like to thank our Home and School Committee
for providing funds to install new seating in the secondary
school quadrangle. New picnic tables and benches were
installed at the start of the year and have been well used by
our secondary students. As well as providing a great place
for students to sit and eat their lunch, teachers have made
the most of some of the beautiful summer days we have had
recently, using the picnic tables for their classes.
