North Central Public Health Director, Teri Thalhofer RN/BSN was awarded the OPHA (Oregon Public Health Association) Nursing Leadership Award on May 4th, at the 2015 Nursing and the Public’s Health Conference held in Portland, Oregon! This honor is awarded to those that exemplify outstanding leadership, dedication, and contributions in the field of public health nursing. Remarks made during the award presentation include; Teri graduated from University of Portland in 1987 and began her career as a registered nurse at OHSU. In 1997 Teri moved to The Dalles and three years later she became a Public Health nurse at Wasco Sherman Public Health Department (now North Central Public Health District). In 2008 Teri was promoted to the Nursing Supervisor position and one year later she stepped up to lead the organization as Director. Teri recognizes the importance of being “at the table” and the valuable role Public Health plays in our society. She has always taken an active role in professional organizations and always contributes to the advancement of Public Health and the nursing profession. Teri is an active member of the Council of Local Health Officials, as well as serving on regional Coordinated Care Organization committees. Her understanding of childhood experiences, the role of Public Health nurse intervention and health community partnerships have been instrumental in moving forward the collective stakeholder work statewide. Teri is a strong and confident woman. Her passion and dedication for Public Health is apparent to all those that work with her. The citizens of Wasco, Sherman and Gilliam Counties, and the State at large, are a better place to live because of the efforts that Teri Thalhofer gives each day.
