38TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF THE NEHRU PLANETARIUM
To mark the 38th Anniversary of the Nehru Planetarium, following contests were organised. Given below are the results of
various contests held during 24 February 2015 to 28 February 2015.
The concluding function of the 38th Anniversary Celebrations of Nehru Planetarium was held on Tuesday, 3 March 2015 at 5
pm. at Hall of Quest, Basement Nehru Planetarium.
Dr. Vijay Singh, Former National Coordinator-Science Olympiads, Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, Mumbai
was the Chief Guest. He addressed the winners and gave away the prizes. Mr. Satish Sahney, Chief Executive, Nehru Centre,
Mr. S. K. Kulkarni, Director (Finance and Administration) and Mr. Arvind Paranjpye, Director Nehru Planetarium were also
present.

STAR CHART FOR APRIL 2015
The month of April 2015 offers one
beautiful sight of thin lunar crescent
right below Aldebaran (Rohini) on
21st and Venus just about 7 degrees
north of them.
Mercury (Budha) in Pisces (Meena)
this month but crosses through the
boundary of Cetus, the Whale on the
4th and as it continues to move, it
re-enters into Pisces again on the 6th.
And then to Aries on 15th. It is in
superior conjunction with the sun on
10th. And later reappears above the
western horizon. By the month end it
sets after the end of nautical twilight.
It catches up with Mars on 22nd
April. Both planets would be seen
just about degree and a quarter from
each other.
Venus (Shukra) is -4.0 mag as the
month begins. It in Aries, the Ram
(Mesh) to Taurus, the Bull (Vrishabh)
on 8th. It is just about 3.5 degrees
from Pleiades (Kruttika) on 14th. By
15th it marginally brightens up to
-4.1.
Mars (Mangal) is in Aries, the Ram
(Mesh) this month. It is now getting
too close to the sun to be observed
with ease. It is 1.4 mag object and still
sets after the end of nautical twilight
(see Mercury above), this month.
Jupiter (Guru) stars with -2.3 object
and fades by 0.2 mag by the month
end. It remains in Cancer, the Crab
(Karka) this month.
Saturn (Shani) is 0.3 mag object that
brightens to 0.1 mag by month end.
It remains in Scorpius, the Scorpio
(Vrishchik).
The map shows slightly more sky than that will be visible from a given
location. Thus the map can be used elsewhere in India at 21:00 hrs Indian Time.

Festival of Manipuri Dance
& Music
Nehru Centre had organized A Two Day Festival of
Manipuri Dance & Music dedicated to the memory of
Kathak maestro Sitara Devi and Manipuri exponent
Savita N. Mehta on 11th & 12th March 2015 at the
Nehru Centre Auditorium.
It was designed and devised by Jawaharlal Nehru
Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal.
The festival was inaugurated by lighting the traditional
lamp by the family members of Savita N. Mehta;
Smt. Darshana Zhaveri and Shri L. Upendro Sharma,
Director, Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy,
Imphal.
