Confident Girls Brochure

Confident Girls
Give a girl netball
If a lot of people who love netball give a little,
more girls will benefit from our game.
Remember the fun you had?
Take the opportunity
to pass it on.
Confident Girls is about giving those who
can least afford it, the chance to play
netball too.
An initiative of the Netball Foundation in
partnership with the Australian Sports
Foundation, Confident Girls is shooting
for $100,000 to reach up to 5,000 girls
who don’t yet know the joy of netball.
Donations will fund netball programs,
equipment and coaching in
disadvantaged communities.
It’ll give more girls the chance to:

Confident Girls abound…
…in Queensland
Pass on the inspiration — When
Queensland Firebirds star midcourt
defender Gabi Simpson visited St Pauls
Catholic College in Woodridge for its
Active After-school community program
she did just that. It was game on for the
first time for many of the students who
mainly come from immigrant, refugee
or indigenous backgrounds. Her visit
inspired a love of the game. This, and a
visit from Netball Queensland, as part of
inclusion NetSetGO in the region, now
sees a large number of students playing
for the Logan City Netball Association.
…and the Northern Territory
Score the learning benefits — That’s
exactly what happened to the students at
the Wugularr School after starting a netball
team. The girls play in the Katherine
Netball Association, an hour and 20
minutes away. Teacher Sarah Mullucks says
since starting netball there are noticeable
improvements in student attendance rates,
cooperation and learning habits. Netball
has helped the girls reach greater heights
with the Wugularr team recently playing
in the Katherine Netball Association grand
final and two of the girls playing in the NT
Championships!
…from South Australia
Shoot for confidence — With inclusion
NetSetGO the special school students at
Port Lincoln did just that. There is only
one special school on the Eyre Peninsula.
For these South Australian country school
kids, it was exciting to have coaching
from Australian Diamond Rebecca Bulley.
Rebecca’s love of netball spread to all
with the entire school participating in the
weekly NetSetGO program. Many of the
students now hope to play netball in their
local competition!
…to Victoria
Reach out to the community — That’s
what happened when Netball Victoria
ran a six week program to teach netball
to the children at the Japanese School
in Caulfield. The coach stepped into
action with the help of a translator and
lots of active demonstrations taught the
children new skills and even the rules of
netball. At the start of the program, the
majority of children didn’t even know
what netball was. By the end of the
program the children were playing a full
game of netball!
…in Western Australia
Centre on goals — This was literally
the focus for Christ the King Djarindjin
Lombadina students when they set up
their own court with some help from
Netball WA. Students and staff stepped
into action, making the most of netball
equipment and resources from the
NetSetGO program, culminating in a
much-loved netball court. The two netball
posts are front and centre of the minds
of most of the school’s students, proud
because they not just built it but play on it!
…across the waters to Tasmania
Game on for everyone — Netball’s
ability to include all was celebrated in
Tasmania during the State League’s ‘One
Netball Round’. It was game on with
the round encouraging everyone to get
involved in netball. Players, irrespective of
their ability, age, cultural background or
gender scored goals, showing the game of
netball is for all!
…in New South Wales
Be a super-sub — Netball subbed on
to the courts with NetSetGO at the Old
Guildford Public School, benefitting
the school’s culturally and linguistically
diverse students. Netball is breaking
down language and cultural barriers. As
the school’s children discover a love for
the sport through the NetSetGO program,
it boosts their physical and mental health,
providing fun and a sense of belonging.
How will your
donation be spent?
Just $25 pays for an
underprivileged girl to try
netball at a free NetSetGO clinic.
$15

$100

the Foundation Coaching Course to
run a NetSetGO centre.
$300

one NetSetGO centre.
$4,950
funds a non-profit organisation to
run a NetSetGO program for 30
disadvantaged girls over eight weeks.
($20/girl/session).
$8,570
funds a Multi-Cultural Service
Provider to run a NetSetGO program
for 20 disadvantaged girls over 12
weeks. ($35/girl/session).
$10,000
funds an Indigenous Service Provider
to run a NetSetGO program for 30
disadvantaged girls over 10 weeks.
($33/girl/session).
…and in the ACT
Net the benefits — The children
who are deaf or hard of hearing who
participated in a NetSetGO clinic as part
of Deaf Sports Day at the ACT Netball
Stadium did just that! The joy of netball
was experienced by all with many of
the children playing netball for the first
time ever. Coaches were briefed on how
best to teach the children. This helped
the children to score goals in a safe,
enjoyable and fun netball environment. It
was game on for everyone, showing that
being deaf is no barrier in netball.
