COMSODE PROJECT: Components Supporting the Open Data

COMSODE PROJECT:
Components Supporting the
Open Data Exploitation
The COMSODE project has received funding from the Seventh Framework Programme
of the European Union in the grant agreement number 611358.
COMSODE Project Objectives
1) Create and prove an Open Data
publication/harvesting platform called Open-DataNode (open source software)
2) Bring to life methodologies for public bodies
allowing quality publication of Open Data
3) Implement Advanced Search Toolbox
4) Support the release of new datasets in several
project pilots and use cases
5) Exploit project results for business of SMEs and
new demand-driven projects (also in H2020)
What does the Open Data Node
platform do?
1. it extracts (harvests) data from internal systems using any available
interface and method to do that safely, effectively, at low cost
2. it processes that data, performing format conversions, cleansing,
anonymization, enrichment, linking, etc. (as part of that compiling some
metadata about that data)
3. it stores the results (data and metadata too), serving effectively as cache,
protecting internal systems from overloading in case of high demand for data
from users
4. it makes the results available to the general public and businesses –
supporting both common users (with usual office tools on PCs or other
devices) and application developers (equipped with powerful software
development tools and above average hardware), implementing also
automated and efficient distribution of updated data – increments – and
dataset replication (including metadata)
5. it allows all this to be automated, easy to use and easy to maintain.
