Program Goal
Participants will learn to identify disordered eating, assess the level of care needed, provide
outpatient treatment, work as an interdisciplinary team, make appropriate referrals when
necessary, and serve as consultants for other community providers.
Background
Colebrook, Berlin, Conway, Littleton, Plymouth and Keene, New Hampshire are some of
the most underserved populations in New England in regards to eating disorders treatment.
The New Hampshire Eating Disorders Treatment Network will be offering a yearlong
training to improve care to this underserved population.
Registration
Overview
Registration is online and by credit card
only. There is a registration fee of
$150 for practitioners located in areas
underserved for eating disorder treatment
including: Colebrook, Berlin, Conway,
Littleton, Plymouth and Keene. ($200 for
attendees who do not practice in the areas
listed above.)
Participants will attend two days of Core Training, participate in 6 of the 9 virtual meetings
led by consultant(s), log into three eating disorders webinars, and to be listed as members
in the NH Eating Disorders Network database once they have completed the year’s work.

This program will be kick started by a two-day Core-Training at Plymouth State University
in Plymouth, NH on March 26 & 27, 2015. The two day training agenda will include an
overview of: eating disorders; best practices treatment skills and strategies for medical
providers, clinicians and dietitians; how to collaborate effectively with other treatment
professionals; the referral process and program at The Center for Eating Disorders
Management; differences among residential programs, how to choose a program, how and
when to refer a patient, and follow-up care. George Fryburg, Director of Connect NH,
will offer a session on how to participate in these virtual meetings throughout the year.
Support by Connect NH will be available for individuals during each meeting and webinar.
Program Components
• The two-day Core-Training
• Free services of an eating disorders consultant(s)
• Monthly peer consultation opportunities via telemedicine and facilitated by the Consultant(s)
• Eating disorders webinars
• Being listed as member in the NH Eating Disorders Network database at the year’s conclusion
Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Describe what encompasses an eating disorder;
For medical or mental health providers,
registered dietitians, school nurses and
others wishing to develop or strengthen
their skills in diagnosing and treating
those with eating disorders in the
community.
• Discuss an overall plan of care for addressing the patient with an eating disorder;
• Employ team-based skills for effective interdisciplinary treatment.
This special training is supported through

Foundation, The New Hampshire Endowment
for Health and The J.T. Hopwood Charitable
Trust.
Accreditation
Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center’s Nursing Continuing Education Council is
accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses
Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
This educational activity carries 11.50 contact hours.
This activity will also provide 9 hours of professional development using
telecommunications.
A certificate of participation will be given to all registrants who attend.

Faculty
LAURA J. CLAUSS, APRN-C, CEDS received her RN degree at Allentown Hospital School of Nursing in Pennsylvania,
her FNP training at University of Maine, and a BA in Psychology and Sociology from New England College. She is a
family advanced practice registered nurse, a certified eating disorder specialist and approved supervisor through
the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals. She is the current Medical Director, and CEO of
The Center for Eating Disorders Management in Bedford, NH and was named the 2014 NH Nurse Practitioner
of the Year. Laura is a member of The New England Eating Disorder Research Collaborative and provides
professional training in eating disorders on state, national and international levels.
KATHLEEN M. CORKERY, LICSW completed her BA degree in psychology and MSW in social
work at Boston University and has received specialized training in the Maudsley treatment model,
also known as family based treatment for adolescents with anorexia nervosa. She joined the CEDM
staff in 1997 bringing experience in eating disorders treatment having worked in a variety
of settings including community mental health centers, military hospital counseling
programs and private practice. She also has expertise in working with troubled
youth and adolescents as well as trauma and abuse survivors. She is vice-president
of The Center for Eating Disorders Management, Inc. and serves as the Center’s
Clinical Director.
TERRY V. EAGAN, MD is a psychiatrist, Founder/CEO of Eagan Medical Group,
LLC, and Chief Medical Officer of Monte Nido & Affiliates Eating Disorder
Programs. His specialties include primary psychiatric conditions, eating
disorders, substance-abuse disorders, impulse control disorders, and trauma
and abuse. Dr. Eagan’s treatment approach incorporates pharmacological
interventions with evidence-based cognitive behavioral therapies, adjunctive
modalities and traditional spiritual practices.
GEORGE A. FRYBURG is a Director of ConnectNH, a manager of ConnectNH
Video Collaboration Services, part of the Connect NH-Information Technology
Group at the University of New Hampshire, and a Sub-Committee Chair of
Distance Learning Programs and Services, coordinating efforts to foster
the development of educational programs on the network by working
with member organizations and other providers of content located both
in and out of state.
MARIA LARKIN, M.Ed, RD, LD has a Bachelor of Science, Nutrition and Dietetics,
Community Emphasis, from the University of Texas Health Science Center at
Houston, and a Master of Education in Counseling with Specialization in Eating
Disorders from Plymouth State University. A former nutrition counselor at the
UNH Health Services Center, Maria is the co-author of Nutrition Counseling in
the Treatment of Eating Disorders, 2nd edition. She is an experienced national
presenter and is currently in private practice in Durham, NH and owner of Better
Gut Better Health, LLC, specializing in gastrointestinal health, food sensitivities
and intolerances.
KARIN LEWIS, MA, LMFT, CEDS is the Clinical Director of Monte Nido at Laurel
Hill and Founder/Clinical Director of the Eating Disorder Center of Andover, MA.
Karin has been specializing in the prevention and treatment of eating disorders
since 2005. As an experienced and specially trained eating disorder therapist,
Karin has been an integral part of running eating disorder treatment facilities
ranging from intensive outpatient, partial hospitalizations and residential treatment
centers. Karin is committed to supporting clients and their family members persevere
through the challenging battle with an eating disorder, and with insight, awareness,
strength, support and courage, she believes that full recovery is attainable.
MARY OREAR, BA, MA is the Founder/Director of Mainely Girls, the Project Director for
Maine’s Eating Disorders Learning Collaborative, a founding member and current
board member of the Eating Disorders Association of Maine (EDAM). She is currently
working in NH to establish a similar statewide eating disorders treatment network
model to NH. Mary is the coordinator of the New Hampshire Training with Maria
Larkin and Melissa Garvey. http://www.nhedtn.org
