Brenda Meekins (O26) was one of the more than 100 employees who attended the information sessions last week. “The session I attended was very beneficial,” she said. “I was able to learn about what to expect once the center is built. By having the center onsite, I think it will save employees a lot of time -especially time that is typically wasted on travel.” John Knabe (O41) was also happy that he decided to attend one of the sessions. “Information was laid out clearly, and we were able to have all of our questions answered,” he said. “QuadMed did a great job explaining anything that needed further explanation. The most exciting thing for me about the new center is the $15 office visit fee versus a typical co-pay.” QuadMed will be back at Newport News Shipbuilding on May 5 and 6 to hold additional information sessions for employees during the following times: • 7-8 a.m. (3rd shift) • Noon - 1 p.m. (1st shift) • 2-3 p.m. (2nd shift) Attendees must receive pre-approval from their supervisor to flex the last 30 minutes of the lunch session for day shift employees. Following the moment of silence, Eddrick Donaldson (X18) and his crew in the Ring Module Shop spent time discussing the importance of first-time quality. “It’s important for all shipbuilders to take pride in their work,” Donaldson said. “Whether it’s working on a submarine, carrier or a part that will eventually go on a ship – it’s all just as equally important. We are all a team, and we have to depend on eachother so that we can provide the Navy with the best product possible.” Donaldson’s brother is in the Navy. “I never know when my brother could be on one of the ship’s I’m helping to build,” he said. “So for me first-time quality is personal, and it’s something that I take very seriously.” Pictured (L to R): Bryon Norder, Earnest Jackson, Chester Holliman, Elbert Morris, Foreman Devon Anderson, Christopher Murrell, Terry Cooley and Eddrick Donaldson.
