It is our pleasure to welcome all guests, students, faculty, honored guests, speakers, sponsors, exhibit representatives, Pharmacy Technicians, and Pharmacists. The convention committee in Bismarck hopes you will enjoy the outstanding programs and events that are scheduled. A special thank you goes out to the committee for putting together such a fine schedule of events. Thank you for your time and dedication. This year, 2015, marks the 130th year of our association’s devotion to the Pharmacy profession. Looking back, we can take great pride in the accomplishments of this profession in meeting needs of the people of this state. Looking forward, there will be many exciting and challenging things ahead. This profession in ND has a history of going above and beyond the normal standards and will continue, with your support, to meet the challenges ahead and excel in services provided. The educational programs and exhibits are designed to help us continue to build our knowledge and extend our history of outstanding patient care. Please take the time to thank those who have willingly supported us through exhibits, meals and events, and those who have graciously dedicated their time to present programs for this convention. This past year was one for the history books. For the first time in the history of North Dakota, the ownership law was put to the vote of the people. The people spoke in convincing fashion, almost 60% in support of the current law and a No Vote on Measure 7. There were many arguments made from both sides, but in the end the people of North Dakota continued to support the current law and what it means to them. There are also historic challenges ahead. The increased use of Medication Therapy Management (MTM), Provider Status, and preferred networks are just a few. The ABC’s of pharmacy practice have provided true leadership in making pharmacy what it is in North Dakota. This leadership will continue to provide strength and guidance in meeting the needs and challenges that lie ahead. We can move forward proudly into the next era of pharmacy practice knowing we have the right tools, education, and leadership to serve our patients on the highest level every day. Finally, please take the time to enjoy all this convention has to offer. There are many educational and social events for you to take part in. It will be exciting to renew friendships, make new acquaintances, and enjoy the time spent with everyone. Again, welcome to the Capitol City and enjoy your time spent in this wonderful community. Steve Boehning NDPhA President History of NDPhA North Dakota Pharmacy Association The Dakota Pharmaceutical Association was organized August 3, 1885, in Fargo by pharmacists concerned about the quality of pharmacy practice in the northern part of the Dakota Territory. There were no licensure requirements for pharmacists and pharmacies and the goal of the group was to organize to advance the profession by promoting standards for pharmacists to meet. Following statehood the organization was recognized as the North Dakota Pharmaceutical Association. The articles of incorporation were renewed in 1935. In April 2004, at the annual convention, the members voted to change the association’s name to the North Dakota Pharmacists Association. 1 NDPhA Board of Directors President Steve Boehning President Elect Kyle DeMontigny Vice President Wanda Roden Chairman Joel Aukes District 1 Ramona Sorenson District 2 Kim Essler District 3 Zach Marty District 4 Erin Navarro District 5 Steve Irsfeld District 6 Dan Churchill District 7 Doreen Sayler District 8 Rebecca Focken NAPT President Sharon Kupper Community Practice Dan Churchill ExOfficios Executive Vice President Michael Schwab NDSCS Pharmacy Tech Program Barbara Lacher NDPSC President David Olig BOP Executive Director Mark Hardy NDSU College of Pharmacy Charles Peterson NDPhA Vice President Elect Harvey Hanel NDSHP President Maari Loy ASP Representative Jennifer Nesius NDPhA Past Presidents 2013 Joel Aukes 2012 Shane Wendel 2011 Mark Aurit 2010 Brad Morrison 2009 Earl Abrahamson 2008 Lance Mohl 2007 Jerome Wahl 2006 Dennis Johnson 2005 Tim Carlson 2004 Curtis McGarvey 2003 Wade Bilden 2002 Bob Treitline 2001 Bonnie Thom 2000 Judy Swisher 1999 Kevin Oberlander 1998 James Carlson 1997 Rick Detwiller 1996 Dewey Schlittenhard 1995 Tom Davis 2 1994 Laurel Haroldson 1975 Ervin Reuther 1993 Terrance Kristensen 1974 Thomas Swinland 1992 George Birkmaier 1973 Anthony Walter 1991 Gary Dewhirst 1972 William Grosz 1990 David Olig 1971 Jack Southam 1989 Thomas Simmer 1970 Vernon Wagner 1988 Marvin Tokach 1969 Alden Foss 1987 Marvin Malmberg 1968 James Irgens 1986 Gordon Mayer 1985 Thomas Pettinger nts and 1984 Anton Welder Presideed to a t s a P A it h All NDPguests are invheld at: 1983 Roberta Southam their ering to be 1982 Jerome Dufault gath otel sson H 015 i d a 1981 Odell Krohn R The th, 2 April 25 , 1980 Patricia Kramer y a . d r u Sat 6:00 p.m – . 1979 Clarence George m . p 5:00 en Room 1978 Howard Anderson Jr. Manhatt 1977 Frederick Baillie 1976 Bruce Rodenhizer Welcome The North Dakota Society of Health System Pharmacists (NDSHP) welcomes you to Bismarck, ND for the Annual ND Pharmacy Convention! There are several continuing education sessions to attend, fun activities to enjoy, and banquet/awards planned for everyone to take part in and a chance to visit with familiar faces and to meet new colleagues. Thank you to all convention committee members who have worked to make this a successful weekend! History of NAPT Sharon Kupper NAPT President Northland Association of Pharmacy Technicians Under the direction of Pharmacist Al Schwindt, the first strategic planning meeting was held October 2, 1991. Goals were set including; creating an association to represent Pharmacy Technicians, petition the ND Board of Pharmacy to recognize Pharmacy Technicians as part of the profession of pharmacy, and working towards establishing an Executive Board, Constitution, & Bylaws. On January 15, 1992 the NAPT organization was created and held their first business meeting. Paving the way for Pharmacy Technicians, the NAPT Executive Board has been a proactive group acting as a leader on behalf of Pharmacy Technicians both on the state and national level. In January of 1992 NAPT became a chapter of AAPT (American Association of Pharmacy Technicians) and has since been presented the Chapter of the Year from AAPT several times. A few milestones NAPT has been a part of include; the initial ND Registration requirement, implementation of Continuing Education requirements, representing Pharmacy Technicians by forming the Advisory Committee that meets annually with the ND BOP, hosting annual Fall Conferences, creating awards to promote pharmacy technician’s continued work of excellence they demonstrate, becoming an academy of NDPhA, reconfiguration of the ND BOP by adding a Pharmacy Technician as a full voting member, a Pharmacy Technician becoming President of the ND BOP, and ND BOP certification requirements. We have done our best to represent Pharmacy Technicians and their role in the Profession of Pharmacy. All of this was accomplished through the leadership of NAPT on behalf of ND Pharmacy Technicians.
