CLASSES AND PROGRAMS
COME LEARN, GO DO
WE BELIEVE THAT THERE IS NO SHORTAGE
OF DIVERSE TALENT IN THE NONPROFIT SECTOR
AND THAT ALL LEVELS OF STAFF, VOLUNTEERS,
AND BOARD MEMBERS DESERVE TO
CONTINUOUSLY GROW AND TRANSFORM
THROUGH MEANINGFUL LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES.
DYNAMIC INSTRUCTORS AND FACILITATORS
Our instructors aren’t just experts in their fields—they come with strong
experience with and passion for the nonprofit sector. We contract with eleven
skilled leadership coaches and nearly fifty faculty members who continuously
revise their curriculum based on the most current best practices in the field.
Coaches and faculty are selected through a rigorous hiring process and are
trained in adult learning theory to ensure that every learning experience is
meaningful and unique.
LEADING NONPROFIT PRACTICES
We ensure quality programming through adherence to the guidelines of the
Nonprofit Academic Centers Council, support and guidance from our expert
Curriculum Committee and community partners, and by studying the latest
nonprofit management and leadership research. Further, NLP assesses
quality and effectiveness through continuous evaluation and community
needs assessment. Our Curriculum Committee is made up of twelve talented
professionals who volunteer their time to provide critical oversight to the
program and its curriculum.
COLLABORATIVE CLASSROOMS
NLP classes and programs aren’t just a place to
learn great new skills—you’re also sure to meet
amazing new colleagues. We are proud to attract
a wide and diverse set of nonprofit professionals
whose experiences add richness and depth to
the real-world discussions taking place in our
classroom. Nonprofit Learning Point programs
are open to all, regardless of age, race, gender,
faith, sexual orientation, education completed, or
professional experience. We believe that our varied
experiences are what make a truly powerful
learning experience.
IMMEDIATELY
APPLICABLE
When you attend a
Nonprofit Learning Point
class or participate in a
NLP program, you’ll walk
away with tools, resources,
connections, and ideas
that you’ll be able to
implement the next day.
NLP programs address
the critical issues that
comprise the every day
experience of working
or volunteering in the
nonprofit sector.
85% of those who
participated in the 2014
biennial NLP survey agreed
or strongly agreed that
they perform better at
their job and feel more
confident in their abilities
as a result of participating
in an NLP program. 88%
from the same survey
are likely or very likely to
recommend NLP programs
to a colleague.
“Each class provides not only the value of the content
shared, but also the opportunity to connect with
[many] like-minded colleagues. It’s an opportunity to
understand more about the sector as a whole and the
challenges that are consistent across organizations,
as well as learning more about other roles and
organizations besides one’s own.”
—NLP Classroom Program Participant, 2014
MORE BANG FOR YOUR BUCK
We know that your stakeholders’ and clients’ needs come first. At NLP, you are
one of our most important stakeholders. That’s why we work to ensure affordable
and accessible programming for all, regardless of organization size or structure.
As a nonprofit ourselves, we are supported by our generous funders and sponsors.
THE PARTNERSHIP FOR NONPROFIT EXCELLENCE
Nonprofit Learning Point is a program of the Partnership for Nonprofit
Excellence, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides nonprofits in
Central Virginia with the tools they need to improve their effectiveness and
efficiency for greater impact. The PNE’s four programs—NLP, HandsOn Greater
Richmond, ConnectVA, and Organizational Solutions--provide a comprehensive
support system so that nonprofits can collaborate successfully, employ best
practices, and gain access to a wealth of volunteers. By opening the door to such
resources as project management
expertise, communications tools, and
ongoing professional development, the
Partnership helps nonprofits achieve
their mission.

VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT SERIES
Nonprofit Learning Point and Homeward, the greater
Richmond region’s planning and coordinating agency
for homeless services, are proud to collaboratively offer
a class series and certificate in Case Management.
The Homeward/NLP case management curriculum is
comprised of three sessions, each offered once throughout
the year at NLP, and focused on case management for
those who are living in poverty. Homeward is the official
granting agency of the Case Management Certificate,
which is awarded year-round to those who complete the
NLP case management coursework.
In collaboration with HandsOn Greater Richmond,
the Greater Richmond Association for Volunteer

in Volunteer Administration (CCVA), Nonprofit Learning
Point offers students the opportunity to earn a Certificate
in Volunteer Resources Management based on a national
Volunteer Management Training Series curriculum.
Students must complete all four classes in the series, as
well as an additional “elective” class in any core area.
