Program Assistant (2 Positions), Not Far From The Tree
5 days per week incl. weekends, May to October 2015
Not Far From The Tree, a project of Tides Canada Initiatives Society, puts Toronto’s abundance of local fruit to
good use by picking and sharing the bounty. Not Far From The Tree builds community, fosters environmental
sustainability and enables equitable access to an existing supply of healthy, local food.
Position Summary: The Program Assistants will oversee the scheduling of fruit picking and sharing activities,
ensure fruit picking equipment is in good working order and maintain data and documents related to the fruit
picking program.
Please note that the availability of these positions is dependent on funding still to be confirmed.
Term: Mid/late May 2015 to October 2015
Location: Toronto, flexible location
Salary: $16.50/hour
Responsibilities:
 Schedule fruit picking events for trees in Not Far From The Tree’s operating area
 Liaise with tree owners, volunteers and partner agencies to support fruit picks and deliveries
 Keep database and tracking documents up-to-date
 Oversee maintenance of fruit picking equipment
 Work collaboratively with colleagues to track progress and address challenges as needed
 Work at least one weekend day per week (most fruit picks are on weekends)
Qualifications:
 Strong interpersonal and verbal and written communications skills
 Highly organized and detail-oriented
 Self-motivated and able to manage time effectively
 Ability to stay cool under pressure
 Experience with database management and Microsoft Offices or Google Docs
 Customer service and/or volunteer coordination experience a big asset
