With Raï in France
Tele Lumiere followed up Patriarch
Bechara Boutros Raï in his journey to France,
from the 25th till the 28th of April, providing full
coverage of the visit’s different stops and the issued positions through exclusive news reports. In
details, the visitor met the Archbishop of Paris
Cardinal André Vingt- Trois, and delivered a
lecture at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris about “The Situation of the Christians in the Middle East and their role in the
Culture of Peace.” As well, the Patriarch presided over the solemn Holy Mass at Our Lady of Lebanon Cathedral on the occasion of the first centenary for the presence of the Maronites in the
cathedral, inaugurated the new building of the archbishopric in Meudon, and offered on this occasion a statue of St Maron that was
carried especially from Lebanon to bless the new edifice. The Maronite Patriarch visited as well the
President of the Senate of France Gérard Larcher, the Assembly of Bishops in France and met
those in charge of it. Finally, the visit was crowned by a meeting with the French President Francois
Hollande at Elysée Palace. During all these stops, Raï conveyed the concerns of the sheep, especially in
Lebanon, and the regional prevailing situation, highlighting the Christian presence in the Middle East and trying to find the necessary solutions.
Then, Raï returned to Lebanon holding messages of support and promising pledges.
The Tripartite Patriarchal Meeting in
Beirut
The Syriac Catholic
Patriarch
Ignatius
Joseph III Younan,
the Syriac Orthodox
Patriarch Aphrem II
and the Chaldean
Pope of Babylon St.
Raphael I Sako held a
consultative
meeting
which was attended by
the Bishops and priests of the three churches, at the headquarters of the Syriac Catholic Patriarchate- al
Mathaf. They discussed the catastrophic and confusing
situation of their children in the East generally and in
Syria and Iraq particularly. They agreed on a broadened
meeting including the ecclesiastical, political and intellectual events, to develop a road map
aiming at keeping
firm their presence
and
maintaining
their identity to lead
a decent and peaceful life in their own
countries, facing the
challenges
that
threaten their historical presence in the land of their fathers and grandparents. They emphasized upon the participation, in the subsequent meetings, of the Assyrian Church of the East
which is preparing for the election of a new Patriarch,
succeeding Patriarch Mar Dinkha IV.
The Return to the Self
Tele Lumiere’s family met for the Easter spiritual retreat preparing for the Pentecost when all
the participants returned to themselves, searching
for answers to a group of questions which define
the responsibility of each individual in the community, society, family and work… These wonders
reveal as well the battle each member of the TV’s
family engages in, the cause he has and the head
leading his life, seeking a deeper understanding of the mission of each one of them and a
great recognition of the value of relationships and the emerging bonds in their life, either
with God, the self or others. At the end, a life testimony was given by Mrs. Margo
Kfoury in which she talked about the work of God in her life.
And May Began…
Finally May sat in, the
light of Mary shone, and the holy
Marian month that is rich in ceremonies and activities started. At the
beginning of this month we offer to
the Lord, with the intercession of
the Mother of God, all workers
around the world on their feast
(Labor Day, May 1st), so that they
can be the flame of goodness and
blessing in their families, communities and their Church, as well as
every martyr that was the victim of
terrorism, violence, war, accidents and natural disasters, and we remember especially the
press martyrs, the witnesses of press and free word (May 6th), wishing that their death
turned into resurrection regarding the rightful causes.
As usual, Tele Lumiere will present during this holy month, a group of special
programs dedicated to Mary and provide successively full coverage of the various accompanying celebrations.
