NSSGC RESUMES SPRING BREAK TRADITION
After a two year hiatus, NSSGC members again experienced the wonders of Lake
Havasu in the springtime. This event was a longstanding tradition with our club and was
so popular that a waiting list was frequently required. When gas prices spiked a few
years ago and our membership numbers were affected by the downturn in the economy,
Lake Havasu trips took a timeout. With the bougainvillea in full bloom and the
temperature just a bit higher than Las Vegas, April is a truly delightful time to head
south to Arizona. Thirty eight of our finest made the two + hour trip and were rewarded
with three splendid days in the city with the famous bridge. We are hoping to return
again next year. The tradition continues, consider being a part of it.
Carl Johnson and his partner Jim Morris posted the low score of 271 to dominate the
third flight. Besting the second place finishers by 15 strokes in this format over three
days is quite an accomplishment. Paul Woicicki and Richard Ertz were just no match
this weekend. Carl and Jim eliminated all doubt on the outcome when they scored a net
1 on the difficult par 3 twelfth . This hole even held for one of five net skins and a little
extra gas money for the trip home. Johnie Williams / Bob Genzer and Bill Sheppard / Al
Hurtado finished 3rd and 4th respectively.
Dennis Noon and Havasu resident Mick Butrymowicz survived a strong final round
by Lee Stickney and Frank Singer in flight two and ended in a tie for first place at 272.
Felix Wright and Paul Haydostian started Friday action with a hole out for eagle on their
very first hole but couldn’t sustain the momentum and finished 5 shots back at 277. Carl
Goldsborough/ Joe Merriman and Guilio Cataldi / Spencer Moore rounded out the prize
list.
“Mike and Mike in the Morning” is a popular sports talk show heard locally on the
radio each weekday. NSSGC has its own version of Mike & Mike, Carr and Goffinet
and they captured the flag in flight 1 with a strong 276. Don Yanzer and our Exec Terry
Kirk hung tough until the end and finished 5 strokes back. Jeff Mortl / Ron Sledge and
local legend Ted King and V-P Jack Meola finished 3rd and 4th.
One day partner event at Siena coming up next so if you and your partner are still
speaking, give it another shot. If you didn’t make the trip, here’s another chance.

THOUGHTS FROM OUR PRESIDENT
April 2015
We could not have asked for much better weather in Lake Havasu. I think that
we were all a little disappointed in the condition of the courses, but the greens
were actually quite good.. We plan to go back next year if the conditions
improve. We ’re thinking of playing one or two days at the London Bridge course
and possibly Parker AZ or another area course Friday and/or Saturday. We’ll keep
you in the loop. If you have any thoughts, please share them with me.
Get you entries in for Siena as we need to let them know our total player count
5 days in advance. Don’t get shut out. The Club Championship is on June 13-14
at Paiute. Everyone is welcome and eligible for flight prizes. There is a
misconception that you need 5 rounds to participate. The 5 rounds rule only
applies to the designation as Club Champion!
The annual banquet is scheduled at Las Vegas Golf Club on Wednesday June 24,
2015. There will be food and prizes and all are welcome the cost is $35.00 per
person. We hope to see you all there.
Earl
Thanks to all!

Two Person Team - Net Better Ball of Partners
7:30 AM Sunday Shotgun - $80 per player
Find a partner and get your entry in by May 10th for one of the more
popular events of the year. If you enjoy our partner events and didn’t
get a chance to travel to Lake Havasu, here is a one day event right in
your wheelhouse. Even if you don’t have that special someone to team
up with, enter and the committee will find you someone who just may
end up as your new best friend. The only restriction is a ten stroke
maximum handicap differential.
Get to the course early to enjoy the scenery and hit a few on the range
and putting green (and maybe even a few from the bunker). The
greens are spacious, the bunkers are plentiful and the scenery is
breathtaking. Your enjoyment is guaranteed.

NSSGC Club Championship
Paiute Las Vegas Golf Resort
Saturday, June13, 2015 Snow Mountain 7:45 shotgun
Sunday, June 14, 2015 Sun Mountain 7:45 shotgun
Our 41st annual Club Championship will be returning to the Paiute Las Vegas
Golf Resort on June 13th and 14th. All members are welcome and encouraged to
play in this once a year special tournament. Unlike any other event, our
Championship is flighted by age group rather than handicap. The by-laws
stipulate that this event must be flighted in this manner and it creates some unique
competition not experienced the rest of the year.
In addition to the prizes for low net and gross winners within each flight, the
NSSGC gross and net Club Champions will be crowned. To qualify for this
special honor, the only restriction is that the Champions must have participated in
a minimum of 5 rounds in our tournaments throughout the year. Remember that 3
day tournaments count as three rounds so the limitation should not effect many
players.
The cost is only $150 to play these spectacular Pete Dye designed courses
including range balls and closest to the pin contest. Skin games for net and gross
are also available. If you only play in a few events each year, this is the one you
don’t want to miss.

RULES, RULES AND MORE RULES
BALL AT REST MOVED
Recently I was asked for a ruling at a local event. The unthinkable happened. I
booted it. I flat out got it wrong.
The situation was that a ball had entered a lateral hazard and the player took
relief according to Rule 26-1. After the ball was dropped and came to rest,
therefore deemed to be in play, the player stepped away to select a club. While
he was gone, the ball rolled back into the lateral hazard.
I gave the ruling that the ball could be replaced on the spot where it was
originally dropped – no penalty. Boy was I wrong.
The correct ruling is that the ball must be played as it lies. Therefore the player
must proceed under Rule 26 – Water Hazard. He may choose any option
available under that Rule. He is not required to do the same thing he did the
first time. If he chooses to take relief and drop outside the hazard, he must add
one penalty stroke to his score. This is in addition to the penalty stroke for the
first time he took relief before the ball rolled back in.
Sorry about the bad ruling – but I won’t get it wrong ever again.

HOW ABOUT JOINING THE NSSGC
BOARD OF GOVERNORS
Ever thought about running for political office? Ever thought about what it would
be like to serve on the Board of Directors for Wynn Resorts? Well, the closest you
will probably ever get to that item on your bucket list is to serve on the Board of
Governors of your Nevada State Seniors Golf Club. Ballots will be available in
next month’s newsletter and later that month on the website. Why not submit your
name to the Board for nomination. We are always looking for new members who
can bring new and different approaches to running your Club. New blood is
always welcome and we promise no bloodshed. Call or e-mail Earl if you are
interested. You can also discuss the opportunities with him at the Siena tourney.
