Travel & Accommodation Subsidy
Guidelines
FACS – Family and Community Services has generously made available funding for subsidies to assist
representatives from community housing providers to attend the 2015 NSW Community Housing
Conference.
The conference is a key event for the community housing sector, and will be held at the Sydney Rydges
World Square on Tuesday 5 and Wednesday 6 May 2015. Hosted by the NSW Federation of Housing
Associations, in conjunction with the NSW Aboriginal Housing Office and Churches Housing, around 400
delegates from the community and wider social housing sector, as well as partner organisations from the
private, community and public sectors, are anticipated to attend. The conference has an exciting program
with a range of expert presenters, workshops and practically-focused master-classes, which will be of
interest to Board members, staff, volunteers and tenants of community housing providers.
More information about the conference is available at: http://nswcommunityhousingconference.org.au
Eligibility
The subsidies are available to community housing providers in NSW, including church based providers
and co-operatives, and their tenants.
•
Board members, staff and volunteers of community housing providers are eligible to apply for funding
towards travel costs.
•
Tenants of community housing providers are eligible to apply for funding towards travel and
accommodation costs.
•
All recipients of subsidies must register to attend both days of the conference.
•
No more than one Board member, staff member or volunteer, and no more than one tenant per
provider will receive a subsidy (that is, no more than two subsidies per provider) – please note
that applications must be endorsed by an authorised person at the provider to assist the Assessment
Panel.

About the application process
Decisions about subsidies will be made by an Assessment Panel. In making its decisions the
Assessment Panel will seek to balance a number of objectives:
1. Assisting representatives from the maximum number of providers to attend the conference.
2. Assisting a diversity of Board members, staff, volunteers and tenants to attend the conference.
3. Acknowledging the disadvantage experienced by people in regional, rural and remote areas in
attending conferences due to travel costs.
4. Maximising the benefit to the community housing industry – to achieve this, the Assessment Panel
may give preference to people with multiple roles in the sector, for example being on advisory
committees, reference groups, tenant forums or councils.
5. Giving favourable consideration to representatives of organisations which are applicants for the NSW
Awards for Excellence in Community Housing.
6. Giving favourable consideration to representatives of organisations which can demonstrate that it is
difficult to afford attendance from their own financial resources.
Please note that the subsidy may not cover the full cost of travel or accommodation. Delegates
are expected to meet the other costs associated with attendance at the conference, including
registration. Delegates who receive a subsidy and have not already registered for the conference will be
able to register at the “early bird” rate.
Process and Timetable
Applications will continue to be received by the Federation until all funds have been fully
allocated. Initial applicants will be notified of the Assessment Panel’s decision by Thursday 16 April
2015, and then on a continual basis as applications are received. Receipts/confirmation of bookings will
be required before subsidies are paid to successful applicants.
