The course will include significant changes to the 2012 International Energy Conservation Code, New York State modifications to 2012 IECC, and New York State modifications to the 2010 edition of the ASHRAE 90.1. It will also introduce students to the 2014 Supplement to the New York State Energy Conservation Construction Code and focus on using these publications to enforce and administer commercial energy provisions for commercial buildings in New York state. This course is a prerequisite for the Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code Update Training that will be provided by the DBSC in 2015. How Buildings Succeed or Fail in Emergencies: A Firefighter’s View 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. CEO In-Service Credit Hours: TBD This course offers a chance for members of the architecture and engineering worlds to gain perspective on how the evolution of today’s fire environment and modern building construction techniques and materials have changed the way firefighters view and respond to structural fires. Through sharing scientific data, live burn testing, and reviewing recent events, Deputy Chief F.J. Spinelli hopes to facilitate a productive discussion and allow participants to gain insight into how sometimes designs and materials don’t translate well into the real world. The program will also highlight misconceptions and misrepresentations in television and movies regarding fire sprinkler systems that are widely accepted as truth by the American public. Division of Building Standards and Codes – Update Course Haz-Mat Awareness for Code Officials CEO In-Service Credit Hours: 1 Hour 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Join DBSC Director Ron Piester as he reviews information on some of the new regulations (order, truss, etc.) and provides information about the 2015 code update. 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. CEO In-Service Credit Hours: 2 Hours In this course, Investigator/Inspector Pete Lattanzio of C&L Inspections will review how to recognize the hazards that may be present at building and construction sites. In addition, it is designed to meet the OSHA training requirements of 29 CFR 1910.120 and will offer an in-depth look at the hazardous materials portion of the 2010 Fire Code of the State of New York.
