Easter Break
We break up for Easter on Thursday 2nd April at 3:10 pm.
The school office will close at 4:30 pm. We will be asking
students to leave the site promptly on the last day to
enable the school to be closed earlier than normal.
Easter Revision Sessions
There are a number of revision sessions taking place over
the Easter period for students in Years 11, 12 and 13. It is
important that students attend these, as they will receive
vital support in preparation for forthcoming examinations.

Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge
On 18th March, Ibtisam Awow represented our school in
the Redbridge Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge held at
Mayfield School. There were fifteen participants and
Ibtisam’s speech came third. Those who saw Ibtisam's
speech yesterday or in assembly could see that it was a
resounding success. It is a testimony to someone who
can speak with conviction, power and spirit. My wishes
and love go to Ibtisam as I know that this girl has far to
go.
And we had the best and noisiest supporters!

Essex Schools Rugby
The Year 7&8 girls took part in the Essex Schools Rugby Tournament on 12th March to
qualify for a place in the finals on 18th March. It was a great day and the girls made
amazing progress making excellent carries and hitting some hard tackles. The girls were a
credit to the school and deservedly won an award for their teamwork shown throughout
the day, particularly in their support play and great offloads. Players of the tournament
were Bethany Smith for her breakaway tries and Tasfia Hannan for her great tackling.

Lee Valley Cup
The Year 7 Girls Athletics Team came first in their pool on 11th March to qualify for the
semi-final on 18th March alongside several strong athletics teams across Essex and London
including Southend High School for Girls and local rivals Beal High School. The girls put on
yet another great team performance but unfortunately did not qualify for the final next week.
This is however a real achievement for the girls who have only been training for a few weeks
and put up a good fight against well established schools. They now have their eyes on the
summer season!

Year 7 Visit to Leyton Orient Football Club Game
Oaks Park were really lucky to be given free tickets to watch a home game against Barnsley
on Tuesday March 17thand it was decided to take a group of Year 7 students.
We all met promptly at Newbury Park for the short journey to Leyton and soon found
ourselves sitting in our seats waiting for the game to begin.
It was an exciting game with lots of shots on goal, missed opportunities and a red card.
Half time saw Year 7 rushing to get more food and drink before returning to their seats for
the final half.
It all came to an end with a 0-0 score but everyone had thoroughly enjoyed the game.
All the students were a real credit to OPHS, so well done to them and a big thank you to
Howard Gould at Leyton Orient for arranging the tickets via Mrs Smith for us.
Hopefully we can have more in the future.

The Great British Oaks Park Bake Off
Tonight saw the Year 10s battle it out in the Great British Oaks Park Bake Off. Their task was to make a fruit pie or
crumble. We had an array of dishes showing a range of excellent skills; these included caramel apple crumble with
homemade vanilla custard, Fruit tarts with homemade crème patisserie, apple crumble, banoffee pie, apple surprise and
farmhouse apple and blackberry lattice pie with homemade vanilla custard.
The teams tonight consisted of:
Sigma
Sara Iqbal and Tanika Singh 10W
Nimisha Joy and Angel Nabbanja 10W
Omega
Niamh Mayer & Umar Ahmed 10B
Kappa
Sapriya Bhakar Maariyah Malik 10N
Prasha Maniccadevan & Serena Mahandru 10R
Alpha
Zoe Williams & Joe Willmot 10U
Given just an hour and 15 minutes, these teams did extremely well, one judge even
commented that the pastry was as good, if not better than some of the staff last week!!
Anyway, without further delay the winning team for year 10 were.....
Sara Iqbal and Tanika Singh with their apple and blackberry lattice pie with homemade vanilla custard. Well done to the
girls, and to all the teams who took part- an excellent round!
So the league table for this round is as follows:
1st Sigma
2nd Kappa
3rd Omega
4th Alpha.
This was the last round of the competition as we have no competitors from the sixth
form and only one team from year 11.
So the ranking for this competition is as follows:
1st Place- SIGMA
Joint Second: Omega & Kappa
4th Place- Alpha
Thank you to all who took part or came to judge and support. A big thanks to Mrs Dutch for being our resident Mary Berry!

Around the world in 64 minutes
th
On the 18 March we all met in school before 8am when our video conference would
begin. Our group of excited and nervous Year 7 students were connected to Taiwan, South
Africa and Poland, to share presentations that they had worked on over the past few
weeks. It was amazing to learn all about their schools and countries, as well as being able
to see them to ask questions. Who knows we may even get to visit them one day! Here are
some of the student comments from the group.
“This was a great experience!”
“I had an awesome time”
“I liked the Taiwanese singing”
I enjoyed learning about their cultures”
“I learnt a lot about every single country and I
think we have made many friends”
“I enjoyed speaking to people on the other side
of the world, in different time zones and miles
apart”
This was a very exciting, new and nerve racking experience, learning so much in 64
minutes”
“Can we do this again please?”
Meharin Khan, Kunjal Rawal, Katie Clarke, Rai Bansal, Ishian Forrester, Gabrielle Artega,
Alyaan Danish, Abhay Chauhan
Mrs Corton and Mrs Hayes with all the students that took part in the International Video
Conference with South Africa, Poland and Taiwan.
