"Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he
praises her: Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears
the LORD is to be praised.” Proverbs 31:28-30

In contemporary Christianity, evangelism is anything other
than what the Bible is speaking of. Evangelism in the Bible
is sharing the good news of our salvation to all people.
Many think this is done in nifty ways of handing out
bottles of water with Scripture on it, door-to-door
witnessing or different styles and ways to present the
gospel to a lost world. In fact, programs exist such as
"Share Jesus without Fear," "Evangelism Explosion,"
"Faith," "Continuous Witness Training" all in an
attempt to evangelize the unchurched.
Many engaging in evangelism are doing so to show how
spiritual they are leading people to Christ or to grow their
church instead of the Kingdom of God. They desire the
bragging rights to say they have won x-number of people
to the Lord or their church has x-number of people within
it. Though attempts to bring people into God’s Kingdom
are a great and noble gesture, two specifics are lacking in
this attempt.
First is the true Biblical example of evangelism and second
is the discipleship aspect. With all the attempts today of
Christians to share their faith with the lost, it would seem
like a mass revival is occurring but it is not. Evangelism is
more than sharing your faith or finding nifty ways to do so;
it is about a lifestyle change. Tucked in the Great
Commission is an often overlooked phrase, "...teaching
them to OBSERVE all that I command you." In order to
share our faith we must be living our faith. No one wants
to hear why they should be saved or even need to be
saved from someone living a hypocritical carnal lifestyle.
If we are going to talk the talk, we need to walk the walk.
In other words, have a living and dynamic relationship with
Jesus Christ.
There is an old hymn which says, "Keep telling the story be
faithful and true, let others see Jesus in you." If we are
obedient to Christ in our lives attempting to live godly, we
will naturally share our faith. Those sharing their faith
must be sensitive to the leading and guidance of the Holy
Spirit. At times, God closes doors for evangelism; at times
he opens doors that no man can shut. When God opens
the door gladly walk through it but when God closes a
door, gladly choose another door.
All too often Christians share their faith seeing a person saved. The one sharing their faith will move on to
the next person and share their faith with someone
else. However, most of the time there is no follow up.
No discipleship which takes place. No one to invest
their time in this person in order to see them grow as a
disciple. It is just the idea, "Let's get as many people
saved as we can." This is done often through mission
trips, personal evangelism or church-wide evangelism.
All great and noble efforts but all miss the discipleship
aspect.
People who "professed" to get saved and then were
not disciple, may not attend a local church since
different people are telling them different things
about Christianity, world views and society. It is not
enough to simply get someone saved; we must also
"teach them to observe all that Jesus commanded."
