President’s Message—Buzzes from Emily
Promise
Yourself...
To be so strong that nothing can
disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness, and
prosperity to every person you
meet.
To make all your friends feel that
there is something in them.
To look at the sunny side of
everything and make your
optimism come true.
To think only of the best, to work
only for the best, and to expect
only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about
the success of others as you are
about your own.
To forget the mistakes of the past
and press on to the greater
achievements of the future.
April has really been busy. Life is good! Wish I could say the same for
the weather. I can't believe yesterday was 80 and today is 50, cloudy
and cold. Being an optimist, I know that warmer days are ahead.
A is for April and for AWESOME! We started it out with the chicken
and dumpling dinner for a fundraiser for Hope for Kids, next was our
5k run walk for Hope for Kids. We were able to raise over $2000!
WOW !!. For our first year it was awesome. We had two great programs this month one on Grief, the other on the Better Business Bureau. We also had a great fellowship day and learned about planting
mini gardens. The highlight of this month was gaining five new members! They will be brought in officially on May 6th at our business
meeting. We will be sad to be lose two members that will be moving:
Gail Davault and Sandy Graham. Our best wishes go to them both on
their moves and we will truly hate to see them leave.
Anita Branscum and I attended the District meeting in St Louis. There
we got to hear the winner of the Essay contest, Mabrey McCallister.
She was our local winner and District winner. The Oratorical contest
was won by the entry from the Marble Hill club.
To wear a cheerful countenance
at all times and give every living
creature you meet a smile.
We were represented at Park Clean up day by Pat Abernathy and Laurie Spain. Monday I joined them and worked more at the Band Shell.
It looks great!!!
To give so much time to the
improvement of yourself that you
have no time to criticize others.
Thanks to all members for the hard work again this month on various
committees. Keep up the good work.
To be too large for worry, too
noble for anger, too strong for
fear, and too happy to permit the
presence of trouble.
Looking forward to May and bringing in our new members and our
election of officers.
Remember "IF IT IS TO BE, IT IS UP TO ME"
Yours in Optimism

On March 27, 2015, 17 essay winners were invited
to participate in Respect for Law Day in Jackson.
The program was presented by The Optimist Club
of Jackson and the Jackson Noon Optimists in conjunction with the Jackson Police Department,
Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Department, the
Missouri Department of Conservation, the Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Office of the
Mayor of Jackson. Students from Jackson Public
Schools, Immaculate Conception School and St.
Paul Lutheran School were present for the day’s
activities.
Students were picked up from their schools by
officers from the various law enforcement agencies in their police vehicles. Students rode in police cars from the Sheriff’s Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and a special response
vehicle from the Jackson Police Department. After
a tour of the Jackson Police Department, the students attended a meeting and proclamation signing with Barbara Lohr, Mayor of Jackson. The stu-
dents then went to the Jackson City Park where
Missouri State Troopers landed the Patrol helicopter. Students were allowed to view the aircraft
and even sit in the pilot’s seat. The day continued
with a tour of the Sheriff’s Department and the
county jail. Students then joined the officers for
lunch, provided by both clubs. A presentation with
an agent from the Missouri Department of Conservation wrapped up the events for the day.
On March 31, 2015, the students and officers
were invited to attend a banquet honoring the
essay winners. The students were recognized for
their winning essays and a meal was provided to
students, their families and participating officers.
The students reported enjoying the day and several officers complimented the students and both
clubs for their dedication to the community.

Regular Meeting
Program
Joey Kies with the Better Business Bureau presented an informative program.
It's spring-and yes, it was Youth in Government
Day for 2015. A continental breakfast was
served to 74 youth, city and county leaders.
What a wonderful group of people we have
here in our community!
This is a great program to let our youth see how
the city and county operate on a regular day.
We hope this brings new future leaders to our
town.
Thanks to all for your help!
Norma Yost
Jim Young, Lt. Gov. Zone 11; Emily Collins, Jackson
Noon Club President; Mabrey McCallister, District
Essay Winner; and Anita Branscum, Jackson Noon
Club President-Elect.
Mabrey, a junior at Jackson High School, won the
local contest and then advanced on to the district
level. She was selected as the winner of the East Missouri District Essay Contest out of 17 clubs and 192
entries. She earned a $2,500 scholarship to the college of her choice.
The Jackson Noon Optimist Hope for Kids Annual 5 K
Run is over. The event went smooth with Debbie Leoni taking our hand in the middle of December when
we first started talking about it and letting it go when
the race was over Saturday. There were 48 people
that participated in the event with 19 completing the
5k Run and the others were walkers.
Overall Female winner was Shannon Lawrence and
the Male overall was 12 year old Elias Koehler from
Georgia.
Many thanks go to our Co-Sponsors Rushing Marine
and Servpro as well as those who purchased ads for
the back of our shirts.

Many thanks go to our volunteers who stood on the
course to direct the runners. Special thanks to Jim
Young and Larry Hendershot from the Jackson Men’s
club.
Records show income as $3282.06 and expense of
$280.00 but the bill for the shirts in the amount of
$699.80 and the medals 164.50 have not been received. After they are paid we will have made a profit
of $2,137.70.
We still have some T-shirts that we
need to sell at $10.00 each. We
have most sizes in the blue shirts
and a few yellow ones.
The committee will be getting our donation jars ready
to put out in the community and we will also be working with Gordonville Grill for a Tuesday night fundraiser.
I think we have had a great first time fundraiser.
Thanks to everyone who participated in any way.

Park Day
The Hope For Kids group is doing Community Service work at the Band Shell. Work has been done
with pruning the roses and removing two dead
plants. One of the knock out roses will also need to
be replaced.
At the annual Park Day on Saturday, April 25 several hours were spent getting the area ready for
spring. Thanks to the good help from volunteers
who came to help. Leaves were removed and
mulch was put down as well as new plants being
put in. About 8 hours were spent on this project
and Monday more things were planted.
Lauri Spain and Pat Abernathy worked Saturday
and Emily joined us on Monday. Hopefully more
will be joining us later as we are hoping to keep it
pretty all summer. It will only take a few hours
each month to keep it pretty.
Pat Abernathy
Emily Collins and Lauri Spain put their gardening skills to work at the Band Shell
Bicycle Safety
On Saturday, April 18 the Noon Club participated in
the SE Health Kids’ Extravanga Health and Fitness
Fair. Bicycle helmets were fitted and given to about
35 children. The children were also given crayons,
pencils, rulers and handouts on safety tips. Thanks to
Donna Rushing, Anita Sievers and Clarinda Unger for
working this event.
