Stage Business Co-ordinator Responsible to: Director, Old Vic New Voices Department/Team: Old Vic New Voices Location: 103 The Cut, London, SE1 8NB Hours: 9.30am – 5.30pm Monday to Friday (occasional evening and weekend hours may be required) Salary: Up to £24,000 per annum (dependent on experience) Duration: Fixed term contract (2 years) The Old Vic The Old Vic has been a landmark theatre in London and the home of great productions for nearly 200 years. The Old Vic is now entering a seminal time in its history as we draw towards the close of Kevin Spacey’s extraordinary eleven year Artistic Directorship and launch the inaugural season of our new Artistic Director, Matthew Warchus, in September 2015. This offers us, our audiences, and our partners a unique period of celebration, change and rejuvenation. Matthew will build upon all we have achieved during Kevin’s tenure, creating a vital programme of work that will ensure our productions remain resonant and relevant to 21st century audiences, and upholding The Old Vic’s world class reputation. As important as our work on stage, our dynamic outreach programme Old Vic New Voices has been integral to The Old Vic’s success and it has a thriving future ahead. Through Old Vic New Voices we support young actors, directors, writers and producers to learn their craft; we invest in groundbreaking programmes in schools to raise aspiration among young people; and we use theatre skills to work with charities and local organisations to enable those in the community to participate in what we do. The Team The Old Vic New Voices team is led by the Director and also includes the Education and Community Manager and the Old Vic New Voices intern. This team is supported by a network of freelance artists and administrators. 1 The Project: Stage Business Stage Business is a new 2-year programme that will work with 150 young people aged 16 - 18 and 15 teachers across the UK each year. The project will train young people in workshop facilitation and give them the confidence and communication skills to improve their employability. It will also support teachers with workshops in person and online. We will reach over 9,000 students through the young people and teachers that we train. Purpose of Job The Stage Business Co-ordinator will take responsibility for the administration and coordination of the Stage Business project. An organised and self-motivated individual, they will support the delivery of the project in schools with rigorous administrative processes, detailed record-keeping and clear, timely communication. Working closely with the Director of Old Vic New Voices and the project designer, the Stage Business Co-ordinator will be the main point of contact for all stakeholders and will be instrumental in this new theatre in education project with national reach. Areas of Responsibility: Administration To implement and maintain effective administration systems for the project To update the project timeline and ensure all tasks are completed appropriately To keep accurate records of spending for the Stage Business budget in accordance with existing systems To support the management of resources allocated to the project To support the creation of workshops To support the delivery of the Stage Business Digital Toolkit to allow schools to run the programme in the future Communication To maintain effective communication channels between all project stakeholders (young people, schools, teachers, other agencies, freelance staff, creatives and The Old Vic team) To ensure that all project information is communicated to schools and teachers in a timely and clear fashion To be the main point of contact for everyone involved in the project To create an online profile for the project in conjunction with The Old Vic’s Digital Strategy To create and maintain copy for all online outlets, particularly the website, ensuring that information is always fresh and relevant To ensure that schools information is accurately represented on our database, Tessitura To work with The Old Vic’s Design Studio to create marketing material for Stage Business, in line with Old Vic branding guidelines To collate relevant information on the project for The Old Vic’s Development department and campaign team Departmental & Evaluation To create and deliver an evaluation framework throughout the project that measures the key aims 2 To work with a film maker and other documenters on the creation of bespoke films relating to Stage Business where relevant To represent Old Vic New Voices at Old Vic Development events and others as appropriate To contribute to cross-department initiatives, such as Old Vic New Voices social media and online outlets To maintain a detailed knowledge of changes to the current Education system and practical understanding of the impact on schools of these changes Person Specification The post holder must be able to demonstrate the following: Essential Excellent written and verbal communication skills Excellent organisational skills, and a clear head under pressure An energetic, thorough and professional approach with a good eye for detail Ability to work independently, as part of a team and under direction An understanding of working within an educational context Education to degree level in the creative arts (or equivalent experience) Ability to work with young people Should be willing to undergo a Full Disclosure and Barring Service check Desirable Experience of administration of arts or educational projects to tight deadlines Experience of projects with a national reach An awareness of best practice in a theatre educational context Experience of Tessitura or similar box office systems A knowledge of digital media and experience of supporting online learning processes An understanding of workshops with young people Experience of working within a theatre building 3
