Animals have many features that enable them to adapt to their environment.
We have a very busy day planned for the kids so please make sure they are
at school no later than 8.45am. They will need to have:-







Packed lunch with as much healthy, nude food as possible!
Please include the usual water bottle, fruit snack, morning tea and
lunch.
The children will only need a CLEARLY LABELLED disposable
plastic bag to hold their lunch
and a waterproof jacket (just in case of rain).
Gum Boots/Wet weather shoes are optional
If cold weather is predicted you might like to throw in a beanie.
There is limited storage at the Sanctuary so NO SCHOOL BAGS. .
If you would like to come along, you are more than welcome.
Please let your classroom teacher know if you are
planning to join us. You will be required to pay for entry, so
please refer to their website for further details. Bus space is
limited but a few lucky parents may be invited to join us on the
bus, so let us know if you would like your name in the hat! If you
don’t get chosen, you might like to organise car-pooling and
follow the bus or meet us there.
Aunt Molly from Woolloomooloo is such a character! She just loves knitting and wool but doesn’t like to sew. Aunt Molly loves
puppies and kittens but doesn’t like dogs or cats! She loves trees but not flowers. Aunt Molly is married to Uncle Harry and
they have three children because they didn’t want to have two – Tommy, Sally and Billy. Can you think of anything Aunt Molly
might like or dislike?

SPECIALISTS…
PERFORMING ARTS This term in Performing Arts the students will continue furthering their
knowledge about beat, pitch, dynamics and tempo. They will do this using a number of different
instruments. Students will also complete a variety of activities which will coincide with the inquiry
unit they are studying this term.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION This term Year 2 students will be doing Animal warm up games such as
“Octopus”, Rats and Rabbits and others. Lessons will be focusing on catching and throwing skills in
modified activities and minor games
LOTE (Chinese/Mandarin) This term the students will continue to develop their communication
skills in Mandarin and intercultural understanding of China. Students will develop their oral skills of
describing the features of the selected animals in Mandarin. Incorporating the year level PYP
central idea, students will explore native animals in China and their habitats. They will also study
mythical creatures in Chinese stories, culture and fables as part of their intercultural studies.
VISUAL ARTS
We plan to explore animals and their habitat through Art. We will be looking at
both modern day Animal Art by Graeme Base, 1800’s by Henri Rousseau. We will see the similarities
in their work, with detailed backgrounds depicting intricate habitats coupled with the inclusion of
animals. We will be creating a mixed media piece, using painting, collage and developing knowledge
of size in relation to placement in a picture.
