ONE FAITH, ONE HOPE, ONE LOVE CAMPAIGN OUR LADY of GOOD HOPE PARISH Pledge Update as of June 10, 2015 Fr. Tom is excited to announce that the One Faith, One Hope, One Love campaign at OLGH has reached a total of $363,400 or 71% of our overall goal. Currently, through the parish rebate, our parish will receive $72,680 from just those gifts as the commitments are received! Thank you to everyone who is helping to make this campaign a reality with your generous gifts of time, talent, and treasure Status Update: June 14, 2015 So that we can continue to be successful and help Archbishop Schnurr meet the needs of our Archdiocese, Fr. Tom is asking that all of you give careful consideration to joining our volunteer team. We need quite a few willing and able volunteers so that we can offer each member of our parish the opportunity to have their questions answered and make a gift to the campaign during the next few weeks. If you are interested, we’d like to take this opportunity to invite you to attend our volunteer training and phone-a-thon. You will be fully trained and will receive proper materials to assist in our efforts. Please bring a fully charged cell phone. We will be in the Parish Center on Tuesday, June 16 at 6 - 8 pm. We hope you will join us. The future viability of parish life is a key component of the campaign. To help each parish, 20% of the funds raised up to the parish goal and 60% of funds raised beyond the parish goal are designated for use by the parish to address local capital or programmatic needs. Here at Our Lady of Good Hope Parish, we are planning to use these funds to provide support to Brigid’s Path, install playground structures to be used by our students in BLS, PSR, VBS, and other youth ministry efforts, and capital improvements including the back parking lot. Thank you to everyone who is helping to make this campaign a reality with your generous gifts of time, talent, and treasure Status Update: June 7, 2015 Today, we’d like to focus your attention on another need the One Faith, One Hope, One Love campaign will address, Catholic Charities and Social Services, which will receive about...$10,000,000 Catholic Charities and Social Services As an expression of our faith, we serve the poor and vulnerable through two agencies: Catholic Charities of Southwestern Ohio and Catholic Social Services of the Miami Valley. The 131,000 people we serve annually include many who are out of work for the first time, families with young children, older adults, caregivers, refugees/immigrants, at-risk youth, women in crisis pregnancies, and those who benefit from mental health counseling. We deliver food to provide five million meals annually through food banks, pantries and soup kitchens. The need is very real and growing, and service is provided without regard to religion, race, or age. One Faith, One Hope, One Love provides an opportunity for our local Church to lift many who struggle from sliding further into poverty. Through increasing services provided and enabling a higher level of quality service we will: Provide specific programming to parishes and the community to reach 25,000 people with the Gospel message to serve the poor. Expand care management and enable 32,000 more families to improve their life situations. Develop self-sufficiency through job readiness, literacy, healthy choices, GED, financial skills, and legal services (97,500 services). Invest further in parish/community food pantries, nutrition programs, and the Second Harvest Food Bank to deliver an additional 7.5 million meals to reduce hunger. Increase volunteer hours by 128,000 through professional management and technology. Increase effectiveness through technology and facility upgrades to serve 67,000 more individuals. During the next few weeks, each household in the parish will be receiving more information about the One Faith, One Hope, One Love campaign through the mail and at Mass. Status Update: May 31, 2015 Today, we’d like to focus your attention on two needs the One Faith, One Hope, One Love campaign will address, Fostering Vocations, which will receive about...$16,000,000 and Caring for Retired Diocesan Priests, which will receive about...$13,000,000. Fostering Vocations Few dioceses have a local institution dedicated to the formation of priests, permanent deacons, and lay ministers. With this blessing comes a great responsibility, which The Athenaeum fulfills through forming and educating. Mount St. Mary’s Seminary of the West offers our future priests formation, spiritual guidance, theological knowledge, practical and pastoral experience, and a prayerful home for the men who are answering the call to priestly ministry remains one of the few Catholic seminary graduate schools of theology in the Midwest. As the third-oldest Catholic seminary in the United States, the institution has for over 180 years been dedicated to preparing men and women to do God’s work. In order to continue this important mission in the life of our local Church, One Faith, One Hope, One Love will provide for: Tuition assistance for our seminarians, college seminarians, permanent deacons, lay pastoral ministers and other laity following their vocational call. Increasing the endowment for faculty and staff positions to ensure academic excellence and long term viability. Securing our sacred space with support to facility operating costs, classroom technology upgrades, renovation for additional residential rooms to accommodate the anticipated growth in seminarian numbers, and weatherproofing the main building. Caring for Retired Diocesan Priests When priests retire they continue to make a profound impact on the spiritual and personal lives of Catholics of all ages. They celebrate Mass in area parishes, visit the sick and homebound, and bring God's word to those in prison. After a lifetime of sacrifice and service, no priest should face retirement with financial uncertainty. Parishes support their priests during their active ministry. Once retired, our priests depend on their monthly retirement income, social security, and personal savings to meet living expenses. Our archdiocese established a fund in 1967 to finance benefits for retired priests unable to continue their ministry. There are currently 87 priests receiving benefits from the retirement fund. Soon, for the first time in the history of our archdiocese, there may be more retired priests than active priests. Projections indicate the number of men receiving benefits may grow to 140 within the next five years. With a high average age and a great number of priests preparing to retire, there is a pressing need to provide for these many faithful servants of the local Church. One Faith, One Hope, One Love is committed to supporting our retired diocesan priests. As our parish has progressed through the One Faith, One Hope, One Love campaign, I have highlighted particular portions of the campaign needs. This week I’d like to spend a few moments explaining a few needs here at our parish that we can address through the successful completion of the One Faith, One Hope, One Love campaign. Status Update: May 24, 2015 Last week Fr Tom talked about the One Faith, One Hope, One Love campaign and about the different areas it will address: Catholic Education, Fostering Vocations, Caring for Retired Diocesan Priests, Catholic Charities and Social Services, and our own Local Parish Priorities. Today, we will highlight specifically one area, Catholic Education, which will receive about...$65,000,000, from the campaign. The Archdiocese of Cincinnati is the sixth largest Catholic school system in the country. Our elementary schools and high schools are living embodiments of the Christian values we hold dear. The people of this archdiocese highly value Catholic education and we are currently serving over 44,000 students in 113 schools. Our students receive instruction formed by faith and morality, with a strong emphasis on character development and service to the community. Most schools operate with parish tuition assistance funds and regional efforts such as the Catholic Inner City Schools Educational Fund (CISE) and the Seeds of Growth Fund. While these programs have had great successes and assist many of our families, demand for additional funding remains acute due primarily to demographic shifts and economic challenges. One Faith, One Hope, One Love allows us to address these objectives with endowments and immediate funds that provide for: A tuition fund for needs-based assistance, used in concert with available tuition assistance and a proportionate and reasonable family sacrifice. Professional training, faith formation, and leadership development for teachers and administrators, including catechists in parish religious education programs throughout our archdiocese. Programs that foster quality and vitality in our schools, such as innovative marketing efforts, Latino outreach, and new methods of data collection and accountability. Status Update: May 17, 2015 The leadership of many in our archdiocese, including our Pastors and lay people have served, and continues to serve us well. As we look to the future needs of our community, the financial picture will require continued growth of our resources. Just as our forbearers sacrificed to build our network of parishes and human service institutions in our Archdiocese, Catholics of today must be offered the opportunity to continue this magnificent heritage by supporting structures, services, and ministries designed to meet the current and future needs of the Church. Within this spirit, the Archdiocese of Cincinnati has chosen to embark upon a $130 million campaign named One Faith, One Hope, One Love designed to help address needs in the following areas: Catholic Education, Fostering Vocations, Caring for Retired Diocesan Priests, Catholic Charities and Social Services, and Local Parish Priorities. Every parish in the archdiocese has been assigned a fair share goal for the campaign to meet and will participate in the campaign. Every Catholic household in the archdiocese will be asked to make a sacrificial gift to this campaign. Our goal for our parish is $ 510,000. We are asked to try our best to meet this goal in pledges from our parishioners payable over a five-year period. In addition, 20% of each parishioner’s gift will be returned to the parish for specific local needs up to goal, and 60% once we exceed our goal. The active fundraising part of our campaign will begin today and take place over the next couple of months.
