5th Sunday of Easter May 3rd, 2015 Assembly of the People of God This year’s Assembly will look a little different, and responds directly to participant feedback from our previous Assemblies and information received through phase one of our Pastoral Planning process: the event provides your parishioners with workshops that are more practical and hands on, and with opportunities to customize their experience to meet their needs and particular charisms. The schedule includes three periods of workshops, each focusing on a different component of mission: Sharing Christ with Others, Ministry to Those in Need, and Reliance on the Spirit. Participants will select their own workshops, choosing from 5-7 options in each period. We are also offering a specific “Leadership” track, designed to meet the particular needs of those in parish leadership (clergy, parish staff, ministry leaders, etc) along with the “Discipleship” track, which is intended for a more general audience. We invite all parishioners to attend, particularly anyone involved in the pastoral planning process at your parish and anyone else included in your local parish leadership. Reflections, Witness Personal Profile of Robert Connors East Dover is a place that I have called home since visiting the family homestead as a young boy up until the time that I built my home in 1972. Those summers where shared with my parents, sister and two brothers; later with, Judy, my wife (of 50 years) and our two sons Jeffrey (deceased) and Bradley. We met and saw everyone from the village each Sunday at Mass in Saint Thomas Church. Early on I was drawn to the sea and before completing high school I joined the RCN. My years working in the military were truly enjoyable, motivating and rewarding with endless possibilities for advancement to better myself. I wasn't long at completing my academic requirements, then advancing to technical and engineering courses. I achieved a Certified Engineering Technologist Certificate followed by graduating from the School of Military Engineering in British Columbia. Throughout the years, while working and now in retirement, there have been many good times being a parishioner and being able to take advantage of the several opportunities to serve in the many ministries offered at 0LMC Parish. During the last year and a half we have had many opportunities to learn something about our faith through movies, presentations and music. They have been experiences that have been both beneficial for learning and socially rewarding. Being with old and new friends that I have been able to greet and share an evening with over a meal or just a coffee and cookie is a gathering that I looked forward to. I've mentioned all these past and present experiences because it has and is an excellent way of remaining connected to a good group of people such as yourselves. Taking part in our ministries and being involved with committees offers many pleasurable opportunities to be with others to share, promote unity and to give one's self that "warm fuzzy feeling" to be among people who are like minded. During these present times, our Parish is growing and promoting a genuine appearance within the Halifax Diocese as a community who cares and wants to share. I am pleased to be sharing the faith with each one of you and I am equally proud by letting others know I am a member of a connected community such as ours. I look forward to being with you as we continue on our journey and encourage each of you to partake in some of the opportunities being offered. Over the years I have served at Saint Thomas Church in East Dover not only as a lay person but also maintenance to Church and social and maintenance co-ordinator to the Church hall. I was a representative of the Regional Committee (East Dover) and held the position of Chairperson on parish council in Saint Joseph's Church. At the present time I am serving as grounds keeper and maintenance co-ordinator for Saint Thomas Cemetery, (a position I've held for many years) I am on the Parish Finance Committee, a reader, a member of the Man Cave Group, and I am on the newly formed Community Comfort Centre being set in place for our Hall.
