Mt. 19:13 May 31, 2015 PASTORAL DIRECTION Proclaim the Gospel In today’s Gospel we find Jesus, as he prepares to return to the Father, meeting his disciples for the last time. His final words give them direction for their future. Perhaps we can recall such parting moments in our own lives – leaving home, school, college, training, the death of a loved one. What was that like for us? Were there words spoken then that gave us direction for your future? We learn, however, in today’s Gospel that some of those gathered doubted even in the presence of the Risen Lord. We may be shocked that the disciples could doubt, even in Jesus’s presence. But it should also console us. Doubt helps us ask questions and helps our faith to grow. It is healthy, it is sometimes necessary; it reminds us of the mystery of God. We know that the disciples learned and grew and faced many challenges along the way. It was a very human journey. And so it is for us. Jesus offers us the assurance that he is with us always, even when doubt clouds our vision. Perhaps we can identify with Jesus in the story, when as a parent, teacher, or in some other way we sent someone on his/her way in life knowing we would not be with him or her as in the past. When did the way we parted help the other to make his or her own way in life? Jesus told his disciples that although he would not be with them as in the past he would be with them in a new way right throughout their lives. Have there been times when we were reassured by the love and support of another even though s/he was not physically present with us? In parting with his disciples Jesus gave them a mission for the future. Where, when and how did we get a sense of the meaning and purpose of our own life? How does that sustain us now? Is there any way in which that purpose ties in with the mission given to the eleven to spread the Good News? Soon to be canonized Archbishop Oscar Romero wrote: ‘Each one of us has to be God’s microphone. Each one of us has to be a messenger, a prophet. Where is our baptism? We are baptized in our professions, in the fields of workers, in the market. Wherever there is someone who has been baptized, that is where the Church is. There is a prophet there. Let us not hide the talent that God gave us on the day of our baptism and let us truly live the beauty and responsibility of being a prophetic people.’ We return to today’s feast of the Most Holy Trinity. Fr. Anthony de Mello compares trying to explain the Trinity to explaining what the color green is like to two men who have been born blind. ‘It’s like soft music,’ the sighted person explains to the first man. A little later, he explains to the second man. ‘It’s like soft satin.’ Soon afterwards he finds the two blind men arguing furiously whether the color green was like soft music or soft satin. And yet, in truth it is more unlike both of these things than it is like them. In the limited language at our disposal to talk about God, we are always going to be more wrong than right! PRAY FOR THOSE WHO ARE ILL Rosa Alvarez; Raymond Kalscheuer; Karel Lukas; Mary Ann Novak; Hector Garza; Carey Newsome; Linda Stirpe; Beta Juarez; Kathy Riedel; Jim Charvat; Paige Jorstad; Carlos Benavides; Debbie Warner; Mary Jo Mathis; Joyce Pawlak, Jose Lustre; Mike Ebipane; Jim Dawson; Kathleen Wall; Emily Babcock; Mary Lou McDonald & Maria Luisa Iniguez, Katie Gould & Jeffrey Krepshaw. May they rest in peace. May 31, 2015 FEAST OF THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHIRST PROCESSION out the procession to assist us in singing as we walk along in this act of worship and praise. Sunday, June 7th is the Feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. This great Solemnity is an expression of our Catholic faith in the Real Presence of the risen Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. Here at Our Mother of Confidence Church we will celebrate this feast with a solemn procession and Benediction after the 11:00 AM Mass. Pope Benedict XVI said in his Homily on for this Feast “this procession represents an immense public blessing for our city: Christ is, in person, the divine Blessing for the world. The procession is a profession of our faith. He also made the link with this procession and the procession on Holy Thursday, when the Blessed Sacrament is borne from the main altar to the altar of repose. On the Feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood (Corpus Christi) the Church relives the mystery of Holy Thursday in light of the Resurrection. We bring Christ, present under the sign of bread, onto the streets of our community. We entrust these streets, our homes and each one of us to His ever present goodness." This year we will process out of the church down the steps turning left and walking to the ramp. We will continue down the ramp and out to Regents Road. We will proceed up Regents Road to Governor Drive and then turn left into the second driveway of the parking lot continuing up the parking lot to the top of the ramp. We will gather around the portable altar where we will celebrate Benediction and thank God for the wonderful gift of His love and His sanctifying Presence with us. THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND: This is an ENTIRE PARISH event. Those who go to another Mass or are planning to attend the evening Mass are encouraged to come and participate in this special procession and expression of faith. Cars in the parking lot must remain until the end of Benediction. If for some reason you are unable to remain, please park in the side parking lot near Regents Road or on the street. Those who would be unable to walk in the procession may remain in the area near the ramp where the portable altar will be set up for Benediction. A few parking spots in front of the stairs going to the lower level will be blocked off to allow for the returning procesAt the conclusion of Mass Fr.
