Volume 15 No. 3 - Monthly Publication
March 2015
Commander
Thank You(s) this month.
Thanks to Manny Hernandez and his
family for the great Santa Maria Style
BBQ pit they donated to our Post. It made our first
“Friday Night Hamburger Dinner” a very successful one.
Thanks again to Manny for the wonderful donation.
A big thanks to Bob Bumann our Post Finance Officer for
many years. Bob has done terrific job with our books and
keeping us out of the red. Due to personal reasons, Bob
has decided to step down as our Finance Officer. When
you see Bob, shake his hand and thank him for all of his
dedication and work he did as the POST Finance Officer.
We wish him and his wife the very best. Maybe with a
little coaxing we can get him to stay on as our POST
Chaplin, which he does a great job at. Neil Brown, who
we all know as a hard worker for the POST, ALR, and
Honor/Color Guard has stepped up to the plate to take
over as Finance Officer. Bob is currently training Neil to
do the job. We can rest easy knowing Neil is in good
hands.
Rick Pushies has decided to move on; He has shown an
interest in transferring to Post 1000. We wish Rick the
best and thank him for being our Old Town Report Editor,
Post Historian, and Webmaster. Thanks again Rick and
we wish you the best of luck.

and Commander Dennis Maher for making
it all possible.
Remember, the second Friday of the
month, come on down to the POST
and enjoy a great meal and some
wonderful conversation.

American Legion Riders
On Presidents Day, Ride Captain Ty Olivar
set up a ride to go to Morro Bay the back
way and have lunch at The Waterfront Grill.
It was KSU at 1000 with 13 bikes assembled at the Post. Those members riding
were Don Bailey, John Pope, Rick Campbell, Grant Meyers, Ty & Linda Olivar, John Archuleta &
I, with guests Rob Freyer, Pernell Ritoh, Pat Casarez,
Mark Salinas, Geary Olivera, Dave Mann & Marie
LaFlame. The route took us up to A.G., up Hwy 227 to
just before SLO Airport, over to S. Higuera St, onto Los
Osos Valley Rd. to Los Osos, then to Morro Bay State
Park area, through the Golf course and into Morro Bay &
the restaurant. The food was very good and the company
even better. Great day riding the roads with friends!
On Saturday March 28th, there will be a Welcome Home
Veterans Day event put on by VVA 982 being held at the
Guadalupe City Hall building. The opening ceremony
starts at 11:00am. There will be a BBQ, raffle, live music,
etc.
Also on Saturday March 28th, personnel from VAFB are
putting on a Special Olympics Poker Run fundraiser that
will start & end at Lompoc Post 211. The run departs at
1100, goes to Santa Ynez Elks, Ghost Riders, Orcutt Post
534 and back to Lompoc Post 211. There will be a BBQ
there as well.
At our February meeting we left it up to our members to
decide which event they will attend but we did send a donation to each group from our ALR Chapter 534.
Don’t forget the ALR State Convention being held on
April 17, 18, & 19th. The Convention location is the Clovis Veterans Memorial Building. I believe the convention
is hosted by Sanger ALR Chapter 23. All the Convention
information is available at www.alrdoc.com - Once there,
click on ALR State Convention 2015 to get more information.
The next ALR meeting will be Wed. March 11th at
7:00pm. The Post General Membership meeting is at
6:00pm, so please plan to attend both.
Until next month, get the wind in your face but ride safe.

District 16 achieved 1st PLACE in
the Department for membership at
90.47% of goal. I could not be more
proud of all the efforts of our Posts.
My thanks to Paul Brown, Assistant District Adjutant and Post
1000 Transfer Guru as well. Without Paul's tireless efforts in support
of our District membership initiative
we would not have become.
#1 District in membership for the
Department of California.
We are also very close to reaching
100% of our 2014-2015 membership
goal! Keep up the good work and we
will soon exceed that goal!

To my Post 534 Brothers and Sisters, I have recently volunteered to provide you with our monthly newsletter.
First of all, I want to apologize for my first issue. I
promise to be better at it in the future. I have some very
BIG shoes to fill. Rick Pushies is without a doubt the
best editor we could have asked for. I personally am sad
to see him go. Thanks for everything Rick and best of
luck with your endeavors. I will also be taking over our
Facebook account and in the near future, our post website. Thank you for your patience.
