Why you would be good for this position? (e.g. election pledges, relevant experience. Max. 250
words. Additional words will not be included in Council papers)
For four years before university, I sat on Bridges Youth Committee, in the final year acting as
chair. In this role we collaborated on various ways of solving issues in the wider community, and
methods for greater cohesion.
Given that I am currently a first year law student, who has previously been concerned with
examinations, I have had very little exposure to such roles in university. However, I have taken a
very active role in Keble JCR. This is limited in its impact however, and I would relish the
opportunity to make an impact on the wider university community.
I feel my previous dedication to committee positions, my preparedness to work, and my true
interest in bringing about change, make me ideal for this role.

Having been in charge of my school charity committee, house charity events, the charity
side of the Jewish Society at both school and university and being my college’s RAG rep, I
have a considerable amount of experience in terms of organising charity projects. I have
completed an olympic distance triathlon for charity and have acted as a blood dondation
ambassador at my school, which motivates my first pledge…
Firstly, I hope to significantly promote blood donation at our university. I believe that it is a
shame that there is currently no such effort and that if there were, we could make a big
difference. I believe that the best way for this to be achieved is to form a society with the
following aims:
1. To act as a central point to keep previous donors aware of opportunities to donate again.
2. To include a team of ambassadors who encourage those who have not previously
donated to donate for first time.
3. To raise awareness of the need for and positive effect of blood donation.
4. To work alongside NHSBT in order to maximise the benefits of the above three aims.
Secondly, I hope to reduce food wastage. I believe this will most effectively be achieved by
encouraging college halls to donate their daily leftovers to a charity which can put it to good
use. I also hope to encourage students to do the same with any food they may leftover at
the end of a term.

I am standing to represent student parents at the university who have a particular set of
challenges as they navigate the various demands of graduate study and parenthood. I
believe I have good insight into these challenges myself as the father of three daughters
under 6 years old and a full-time DPhil student in Theology. However, each student mother
or father has a specific challenge according to the form of their family life, their cultural
background and their financial situation, so I would need to listen well to the variety of
experiences.
I gained experience of OUSU activities by playing a role in the Save Castle Mill campaign
and was impressed by the commitment of the OUSU representatives who flocked to support
residents in university accommodation. From my previous work as a pastor I have
experience of equipping and motivating teams, organising events and building community
relations.
I pledge to devote time to amplify the voices of student parents across the collegiate
university, keep student parents informed about the help available to them, and work with the
OUSU team to campaign for feasible improvements.
