March 20, 2015
Congratulations to our NASP Archery Team for winning the NJ State Championship in the Middle
School Division! This is the 9th year in a row that we have won this title and this victory certainly adds to
the legacy and mystique of Oxford Central School Archery! The students and their coaches have put in
many hours to prepare for this recognition – beginning with basic archery instruction throughout our
Physical Education curriculum – and their efforts and dedication certainly have paid off again this year!
Nicolette Hourihan has been recognized as one of the top two female archers in NJ, in any age group or
division! Devin McLaughlin finished as the top Middle School male archer! NINE years in a row! WOW!
Best of luck to Heather Onyskow as she travels to Northampton Community College in Bethlehem,
Pennsylvania next Thursday, March 26! Heather will be on stage competing in the Scripps/ ExpressTimes Regional Spelling Bee and we wish her all the best!
Congratulations to OCS student Melanie Dowling and Hunter Gara! Their artwork and inspirational
posters were recognized by the Coalition for Healthy and Safe Communities and the Warren County
Council of PTA’s and included in the “April Alcohol Awareness Month” campaign posters and folders.
This recognition was also awarded to former OCS student Joshua Guia, who now goes to school in North
Carolina!
Kudos to three students whose artwork was selected as winning entries in the Fire Safety Month Poster
Contest sponsored by the Oxford Township Volunteer Fire Department. The local winners are: Kayleigh
Steckel (grades KG-2); Abigail Savage (grades 3-5); and Natania Nathan and Austin Elsing (grades 6-8).
All four winners will have their posters moved on to the county level!
The OYA/OCS Faculty and Coaches versus the 8th Grade OYA basketball players Charity Game is this
coming Wednesday night at 7:00pm. Everyone is welcome! There is an admission fee of $1.00 for
students in grades KG-8 and $3.00 for HS students and adults. Anyone may participate in the half court
shot competition for a fee of $5.00. All proceeds for the evening will be donated by the OYA to the OCS
State Champion Archery Program.
As part of this charity game, the OYA sponsored a poster contest to advertise the game. The grade level
winners of the contest are: Alex Palmer (KG-2); Isabella Proano (3-5) and Danielle
Gilbert (6-8).

FOURTH GRADE NEWS….
Happy Spring, Oxford!
Fourth grade has been hard at work this year. As we quickly
approach the end of third marking period, we have just
completed PARCC testing, and it is great to see what we have
accomplished this year.
In Science, we have just wrapped up our unit on tornados and
hurricanes. Everyone completed some amazing weather projects
and we even were able to create our own models of tornados in
class!
Everyone has been hard at work in math working on
multiplication and division. We are starting work on fractions in
class at the moment!
Immigration is our current topic in Social Studies. It is nice
discussing the people that have settled New Jersey, and also, we
have had the opportunity to learn about our own ancestry. It is
amazing how so many people can come together and make a
community!
In April, we are looking forward to having a surprise guest in our
Language Arts class! Keep an ear open in April to hear about
what we will be learning and talking about.
Permission slips for our annual field trip have gone home
yesterday. Please review them with your child, and send back to
school. We are looking forward to experiencing all that the
Morris Museum has to offer!
Enjoy the upcoming break!
