Pack 862 Newsletter – April and May 2015 – Change 1 Tigger or Eeyore? Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, and Eeyore are all good pals. They play together, go on adventures, and learn things. Each of them cares deeply for his buddies. When you think of "Tigger", what comes to mind? What is he like? (happy, silly, energetic, positive, not too smart, carefree, ...) When you think of "Eeyore", what comes to mind? (sad, slow, dejected, pessimistic) When anything happens, Eeyore expects the worst. He expects the weather to be rainy, the shelter to be uncomfortable, the hike to be too long, the water be too warm and the food too cold. He sets his expectations way low so he is seldom disappointed, but then he has nothing to look forward to. Tigger, on the other hand, sees fun and adventure in everything. He hops rather than walk, jumps rather than run, and bounces rather than sit still. He sees the rainbow through the clouds, notices something new at every step of a hike, and believes every minute of life is a gift to enjoy. He may not think things through, but he is always looking ahead to the next adventure. So, who are you? Are you more of an Eeyore, plodding through life, sure that school will be hard, friends will be few, and there won't be much fun to do on the weekend? Or are you like Tigger, ready to make every task a game, every day an adventure, and every challenge an opportunity? You are in for a TREAT!! Dens – Please plan your own menus and bring your own den food. Also, we are going to have the Silver Ladle contest again. The Webelos Den is the reigning champion (they were the Bear Den when they won the ladle)! The desserts will be judged on level of scout involvement in preparing the dessert (most important), presentation (2nd most important), and taste (a bonus!). Cost is expected to be $30/family 57 Pipsico Road Spring Grove, VA 23881 (757) 294-3912 2) Zoo Snooze: April 18 we are planning our Overnighter at the Norfolk Zoo! That’s right, it’s time for the Zoo Snooze! We were able to budget a 50% discount for each scout this year. The cost will be $17.50/scout and $35/parent and sibling. 3) Webelosree: May 01 – 03. This event is for Webelos scouts only. It is their chance to visit Boy Scout troops in action! This spring, the Webelosree will be held at NW Annex, 1320 Northwest Boulevard #100, Chesapeake, VA 23322. Cost: $18/Scout or leader. The theme for this WEBELOSREE is “Webelos Roundup”. The Scouts will apply their skills and knowledge to many different aspects of the scouting experience, all in preparation for their bridging to the Boy Scouts. They will earn several activity pins needed for the Webelos rank and the Arrow of Light. 4) Scoutfest: May 09 Just like the one we had in November, this will be the opportunity to catch up the boys for any missed achievements. Our plan is to have the den leaders conduct “catch up” classes for any requirements the boys have missed up to that point. We will have a fundraiser lunch, which will be a hotdog, chips and a drink for $5. The afternoon events will be VERY FUN so plan to come out to the event, even if you are all caught up! 2 5) May 21 is Scout Roundup. This is our recruiting effort to bring scouts in for the following year. This also gives them the chance to participate in our summertime activities. Den leaders – please plan on an outdoor activity (earning a belt loop, for example). I want to make sure the new boys who show up get to meet their own den members for next year. Plan B in case of rain will be to play games in your regular meeting room upstairs. 6) May 28 is Graduation! We always get rained out of this event, so we are going to go ahead and just plan graduation in the Deep Creek Baptist Church gym. Details will be following as we get closer to the event. 7) Class B T-Shirts: We are currently taking orders for our new Class B T-shirts! The cost is $20 per shirt, and we need to have appoximately 30 pre-ordered (with payment) before we can actually order the shirts from the website. If you have not already ordered one, please come see Lynn and place your order. 8) 06 June – Clean the Bay Day Service Project The 27th Annual Clean the Bay Day will be held Saturday, June 6, 2015. We participate in this every year. We will meet at the Deep Creek Lock Station at 9am – 12 pm.
