Dia dhuit a chairde. My name is Laura O’Shea. I come from Ireland. I
teach Business and Economics and French at the senior school at NZIS.
I studied Economics and French in Trinity College Dublin, and
I got an MSc from LSE in Economic History – including Business
History and Capital Markets History. That was a great experience.
After, I was accepted into Bank of Ireland Treasury to train in their
dealing room. I did that for nearly two years, before deciding to
become a teacher of my subjects at second level. I’ve worked in
Dublin schools and in schools in the south of England. This job was
a real surprise offer and, in December in Ireland, I did a lengthy SWOT
analysis..... and it came out as a yes! I’ve been here for two years now,
am so happy here with lots of new friends. I love teaching my subjects
and having my form class 9LO.

Dear Greenpeace,
Last night I found a dolphin
in my swimming pool. Can
you please give me some
information about dolphins
because I think he’s lost? Also
I want to say that dolphins
live in groups called pods
so what is he doing in my
swimming pool? I want to
know how do dolphins sleep
and how do they find their
way when they are lost? And
I also know that they eat fish,
squid and shellfish.
Yours sincerely
Audrey
Sports Day was a great end to last week and
I was especially proud of the senior students
who competed with plenty of enthusiasm
and effort. There were new records
created in both the swimming and
Sprints and overall congratulations
must go to Taniwha and their ins
pired leaders Pretty and Eunice. The
staff gained a measure of revenge
by winning the swimming relay
but bowed to the speed of the
seniors in the sprints. However
the students were lucky the staff
team wasn’t made up of four
Miss Stacey’s, as she finished
powerfully to secure a very
credible 2nd placing…well
done Miss. We await with
interest our next battle….
Reminder in Secondary about our uniform – sports shoes must have only
black or white laces please – no coloured laces. Also only plain white
T shirts are to be worn under NZIS school shirts but students may wear
their house sports shirts during breaks while playing sports. After lunch
time, we have hygiene issues with many of the boys. Please encourage
your son to shower after physical activity as they often enter classes still
sweating profusely. It is not pleasant for teachers or their fellow students.
As a result we have made two bells at lunchtime to allow them time to
shower. Any assistance from parents would be appreciated.
Ruiri (Year 9) is modeling our new proposed hooded sweatshirt for all
Year 11 to Primary students at NZIS. Molly (Year 12) is wearing the new
Seniors Jacket for Year 12 – 13 students. The idea was promoted by our
Head Girl Eunice Wangu and has been developed and endorsed by the
Secondary students and staff. A final design is near completion and
ordering and costs will be available very soon.
Finally Thursday is another big day for us in Secondary, with the official opening of B Block and our
Options Evening. B Block is a great addition to the section and we will look to improve and make
the most of these new facilities. Our Options night is also very important as it is our first real step
towards changing and solidifying our academic subject choices and opportunities. I look forward
to your participation as parents to this event.
