Senior Coordinator, Classification, Sport Sciences & Medicine
Job Purpose
The Senior Coordinator, Classification, Sport Sciences & Medicine will play a leadership role
in supporting CPC to be the world leading Paralympic nation in the area of classification and
sport sciences. He/ She will develop and implement the National/ International Classification
Strategy as well as a specific Paralympic Sport Science and Medicine strategy for Canada in
partnership with National Sport Organisations, other NPCs and performance partners.

Responsibilities (included but not limited to):
General
 Act as a member of the Sport Department
 Positively represent the CPC with internal and external stakeholders
 Liaises with external partners to support the ED Sport as required
 Provide leadership that supports the foundation of a high performance organization
in the area of classification and sport sciences
 Create strong communications and reporting for our specific national heads of
classification
 Support and develop the assigned multiyear classification, research and sport
sciences and medicine operational plans, targets and budgets in collaboration with
the other areas within the sport department as required
Classification
National Priorities
Design and implement an overall classification strategy for Canada aligned with our high –
performance priorities and inclusive of the following aspects:

Design a platform for NSOs to receive appropriate support for sharing of best
practices, education of athletes, parents and staff on classification processes

Identify solutions for key issues and how to best address them
Develop a network and data base of classification experts to support NSOs and staff
around classification
Create appropriate structure to implement an overall strategy with Performance
Partners around Paralympic research, sport science and medicine
Implement a national classification management tool and document evidence of
best practice in national sport specific classification strategies
Work with and support NSOs to provide them with tools and resources to develop
and sustain credible and robust national sport specific strategies that are aligned
with IFs and IPC
Provide leadership and support to NSOs to develop and maintain appropriate
medical/ classification files on athletes
Provide leadership to NSOs to identify, recruit, train and retain classifiers nationally
and internationally
Support the high-performance department as required on initiatives around athlete
recruitment and eligibility across the various sports
International Priorities
 Engage with IPC and IFs to support classification protocols and processes when
appropriate
 Engage with IPC and other NPCs to support the review and implementation of the
Classification Code
 Work with NSOs and their IFs to host international classifier training in Canada
 Work with NSOs and IFs to support athletes’ classification internationally as required
At Games Priorities
 Coordinate and support the planning and delivery of Games Specific Classification
Strategy aligned with the NSOs plans and in collaboration with the games operations
unit as well as high-performance enhancements
 Provide input and advice to Games Core Leadership on classification management at
Games in addition to providing support for emerging issues
Research, Sport Sciences and Medicine
 Facilitate the development of an overall Paralympic research, sport sciences and
medicine strategy for Canada in collaboration with key national partners such as
Sport Canada, Own The Podium and the Canadian Sport Institutes (CSIs)
 Define and document evidence of Paralympic best practices in the areas of research,
sport sciences and medicine strategies
 Develop appropriate tools to track and share national best practices in the areas of
Paralympic research through literature reviews and current status of Paralympic
research to date
 Participate in the Paralympic Pathway Working Group reflecting initiatives related to

research, sport sciences and medicine
Support overall strategy development and assessment of current needs (focus on
cross sports initiatives) and develop plan of actions in relations to the key priorities
of the strategy
Work closely with performance partners including: OTP, Sport Canada and Canadian
Sport Institutes in order to identified appropriate area of research and investments
for Paralympic Sports
Education
 Post-secondary education, preferably in Sport Sciences, Kinesiology, Para Medical,
Medical or equivalent experience in a similar position with a sport organization
Knowledge and skills
 Demonstrated knowledge and expertise (including trends in the field) in highperformance sports specifically in relations to research, sport sciences and medicine
 Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with both internal and
external colleagues (e.g. CPC peers & supervisors, athletes, NSO members, subcontractors)
 Exhibits strong program/project execution skills
 Excellent copy writing, editing, presentation and verbal communication skills, in both
official languages
 Proficient computer skills for:
 E-communications
 Project management
 Word processing
 Presentation development
Experience
 Experience working in the Canadian and/or Paralympic sport system for a minimum
of 3 to 5 years
 Experience as a national/international classifier will be considered as a strong asset
 Experience working in multi-sport games
 Strong knowledge of current best practices in research, sport sciences and medicine
and classification
 Experience selecting and managing volunteers, as well as full-time and contract staff
 Experience establishing and managing operational plans and budgets

Working Conditions
