From the Principal
END OF TERM ALREADY!
It’s hard to believe that we are at the end of Term 1, time just seems to fly by.
It has been a very busy one for students and teachers with a range of incursions and excursions
linking to the students’ learning.
This week, teachers met in level teams to begin preparing for the term to come. Literacy, Numeracy and Inquiry units have been meticulously planned already in preparation for Term 2.
Our Preps are now attending school full time. It is amazing how much they have grown over
the past 9 weeks, they are now truly part of the Parkhill family.
Staffing
Tomorrow we say farewell to Mrs Andrea Crane who has been teaching Year 5/6S whilst Ms Smith
has been on leave. Mrs Crane has done a wonderful job with our Year 5/6 students and in particular her work introducing Socratic Seminars into our curriculum. Thank you Mrs Crane and we
look forward to you returning later in the year.
Uniform Reminder
Please remember that in Term 2 our staff will be looking to see which students are adhering to
our Uniform Policy. In particular, nail polish, leggings, hair ties, jewellery and bracelets will come
‘under fire’ and we will be asking students to remove items that are not listed in our Uniform
Policy. Please visit our website for more information about our uniform.
Working Bee
Thank you to our families who attended our Working Bee last Sunday. Although
down on numbers, which we put down to the incredible amount of work families put into the Fair this term, we achieved a great deal and then enjoyed a
wonderful BBQ lunch.
I take this opportunity to thank all our listed families who attended, but a special thank you to
Lisa Hore who, as you know, does an incredible job leading our Buildings and Grounds Sub Committee and organises our Working Bees each term. Thank you Lisa for all that you do and I encourage everyone to put Sunday 17 May from 1.00pm to 4.00pm in their diaries now, so you
can come along and support Lisa and the team at our next Working Bee.

School Visit
This week we hosted the Shadow Minister for Education Mr Nick
Wakeling and Mr Graham Watt, our local Member for Burwood,
who is well known to our community. As you will recall at the recent State election, the Liberal party committed 5 million towards our Masterplan which would have seen the completion of
Stage 1 of our rebuild. This Stage included 13 new classrooms, a
new Art room, additional toilets and a new car park. The Labor
party have committed $500 000 towards maintenance of our current classrooms and facilities.
We look forward to continuing our discussions with our local Members to help us find a way to
secure the required finances that we need to realise our vision for Parkhill. If you would like to
view our Masterplan, please feel free to make a time with me so I can take you through it.
Lost Property
At the moment we have a very large collection of unnamed, misplaced or lost articles of clothing overflowing from our lost property container. The items have
been placed in the Year 5 and 6 hallway, so please feel free to visit the school and browse
through our collection. Uniforms are not cheap to replace!
Earth Hour
This Saturday people around the globe will once again celebrate Earth Hour. The WWF’s Earth
Hour takes on its biggest challenge ever this year by strengthening the focus on – climate
change. As the opportunity for action on climate change peaks in 2015, the world’s largest
‘grassroots’ movement will raise its voice to change climate change. The ninth edition of Earth
Hour rolls across the globe at 8:30pm local time on Saturday, 28 March 2015.
Climate change is the one of the biggest environmental challenges our planet faces today.
Earth Hour aims to inspire and empower individuals, businesses and governments around the
world to push climate change to the top of the agenda. From promoting renewable energy
and sustainable agriculture to funding projects to protect forests and ecosystems and encouraging climate education, there are many actions we can take as individuals and organisations
to help change climate change.
Further information can be found at: http://www.earthhour.org/
