St. Joseph, Assuring His Presence “The best gift you can give to another is your presence” I remember these words of Fr. Tom McDonough, C.P, who preached the retreat an year ago. In our busy scheduled life what we lose the most is the presence of one another. Our presence in various ways like smile on your face, words in email or voice in a phone call or card in the post box can be a source of support and life when it comes from one's hearts. This month we celebrate the feast of St. Joseph who blessed the Holy family with his Presence. In Gospel we find no words spoken by him but all that we see is the occasions he assures his presence. When he takes Mary as his wife he assures the care of a husband, flight to Egypt: He shows his protective presence, finding Child Jesus in the Temple; his sustaining presence. No wonder St. Joseph is today invoked as patron of the universal church, particularly Protector of our Congregation as Paul of the Cross would address him, patron of presence watching over, caring for and protecting those that God has placed under one's The recent circular on community life from our Superior General, Fr. Joachim Rego C.P. talks about the spirituality of communion. “In some instances, our communities are compared to 'boarding houses'bodies living, praying, eating together, going out to work and return to sleep. There is no communion! Communion happens only in presence to each other. Let us seek the intercession of St. Joseph, Protector of our congregation to make our communities as one of Presence, Love and Care.
