Benefiting Tillman Scholars

Dear Fundraiser:
Thank you for registering to participate in the 11th Annual Pat’s Run! This year,
in honor of the anniversary, we’re asking our participants to set up individual
fundraising pages and to each raise $111 to support the mission of the Pat
Tillman Foundation.
We know you may need to recruit a few different donors to reach that goal, and
we want you to have the tools you need to educate them about where their
money is going. This fundraising kit will provide answers to some questions you
may hear. It will also provide you with instructions on how to set up your Classy
fundraising page, as well as sample messaging and social media to recruit
support from your family and friends.
If you have the time and energy to commit to this $111 goal, it will have a huge
impact on the lives of the nearly 350 Tillman Scholars who embody Pat’s legacy
of service, learning and action.

OUR MISSION
WHAT ARE YOU RUNNING FOR?
Pat’s Run raises money for the Pat Tillman Foundation, which invests in military
veterans and their spouses through academic scholarships – building a diverse
community of leaders committed to service to others.
WHO WAS PAT TILLMAN?
Pat was a professional football player who walked away from a big-money NFL
contract to enlist in the U.S. Army in the wake of 9/11. In April 2004, he died
serving with the 75th Ranger Regiment in Afghanistan, and his memory lives on
today through the work of the Pat Tillman Foundation.
WHAT IS THE PAT TILLMAN FOUNDATION?
Shortly after his death, Pat’s family and friends created the Pat Tillman
Foundation to honor his legacy. Today the foundation focuses on supporting an
incredible group of leaders – the Tillman Scholars.
WHO ARE THE TILLMAN SCHOLARS?
Tillman Scholars are a select group of service members, veterans and military
spouses to whom the foundation grants academic scholarships so they can
pursue their dreams of continued service – both in and out of uniform. These
scholars are creating positive change in the fields of medicine, law, business,
education, the arts and more.
WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH PAT TILLMAN?
Pat’s greatest legacy is a commitment to service, learning and action. These
scholars are the living embodiment of those principles – leaders who will go out
and change the world. That’s why your support of these scholars is not a gift, but
an investment in our country and communities.

HOW TO SET UP A FUNDRAISING PAGE
You can set up a fundraising page for Pat’s Run in just a few easy steps. Every
donation you gather will help Tillman Scholars achieve their dreams to further
their education and continue their service. To get started, visit the link below and
click Become a Fundraiser to launch your page. During the setup process, you
can also create or join a fundraising team to double your impact. Each fundraiser
will receive a custom URL for their individual fundraising page.

HERE ARE SOME TIPS THAT CAN HELP YOU FUNDRAISE
MORE EFFECTIVELY:
PERSONALIZE YOUR STORY.
People give to the story involved with the cause. The more they connect with
your story, the more likely it is that they will make a donation. Hook them in and
tell them why you’re running Pat’s Run with your own words, pictures or even
videos. If you’re inspired by Pat’s story, or the story of a particular Tillman Scholar,
feel free to share their stories by adding one of our YouTube videos to your page.

SHOW YOUR COMMITMENT.
Show you are serious and be your own first donor! Your friends and family will
instantly see your dedication and will be more inclined to donate. Whether it’s
$10, $25 or $50, set a foundation for your goal.
PERSONALIZE YOUR THANK YOU EMAIL TO DONORS.
An immediate thank you goes a long way. Customize the text that appears in your
automatic thank you email when someone makes a donation to your page. In
your messaging, encourage them to check back on your fundraising progress as
you attempt to reach your goal.
SHARE YOUR FUNDRAISER!
It can be daunting figuring out where to start asking for donations. The easiest
places to start are your social networks and your friends. Copy the link to your
page and paste it into emails, Facebook and Twitter to send it out. It’s not just
about mass blasts, though. It’s the personal emails and calls that really make a
difference. Try calling just 5 people to start!

Each year, we can’t fulfill our mission without the continued generosity of
supporters like you. As a thank you, race participants who raise $111 will receive
a limited-edition Pat’s Run hat and decal. But the best part? Every fundraiser
who raises the minimum $111 will be entered into a giveaway for some amazing
prizes. The more money you raise, the more times your name will be entered into
the giveaway and the greater your chance to win. Prizes include tickets to the
2015 ESPYS in Los Angeles, commemorative NFL jerseys, Microsoft® Surface Pro
tablets, Microsoft® Xbox Ones, Pat’s Run gear packages and more.
