A busy April was capped off on
Tuesday by our annual Harrisburg
Dinner, honoring the winners of
the Governor's Awards for
Environmental Excellence. The 15
awards were bestowed to projects
such as sustainability efforts, litter
cleanups, a watershed
enhancement initiative, and much
more.

PEC's Southeast office was hard at
work promoting the Spring Garden
Street Greenway project. Additionally, as Lardner's Point Park was honored with the Green
Park Award on April 11 for its sustainable design and connecting people to natural resources,
Patrick Starr took a look back at PEC's work that helped our vision become a reality.
Meanwhile, our Northeast office staff worked tirelessly to prepare for next week's second
annual trail symposium and both offices collaborated on a series of cleanup events in the
days leading up to Earth Day.
Our Pittsburgh office remained hard at work, as John Walliser delivered comments at a
public hearing on Pennsylvania's overhaul of drilling laws while staff members prepared for
the Regional Energy Efficiency Summit as well as another regional dinner; the upcoming
Western Pennsylvania Environmental Awards that will honor four local winners. On a
statewide level, we officially launched our "PEC Reading Room" on our website
(www.pecpa.org). Our very own electronic library, the Reading Room is a place to find PEC
documents, publications, and more. This past Sunday we also debuted our new television
show, "Environmental Focus" on PCN. The show will center on a different topic each month,
and will feature guests and roundtable discussion with particular insights and expertise on
the issues.

The Spring Garden Street Greenway project continued to gain momentum in a Philadelphia
Inquirer article outlining a federal and local planners' visit to the street this past Thursday.
An article entailing the rebirth of the Monongahela River cited PEC's work with the
Monongahela River Town Program, while our efforts in French Creek also received
recognition.
