June 2015 Newsletter Welcome to the monthly online newsletter. No Tipping Policy My partner and I developed the no tipping policy when we first starting offer this vacation. The policy was in place however it was not emphasized. Ladies local to any home jurisdiction requested even demanded tips so we found it necessary to state our no tipping policy more clearly to differentiate the service we provide. We discourage tipping because once it starts the only question is only how much money is involved. The only down side of this policy is that it unnecessarily applies hotel employees who often deserve a gratuity. For the maid we suggest that you leave a tip of about $500RD or so. That is we suggest about $100RD per vacation day or $500RD per week of stay. $100RD is about $2.25US. When I leave RD, I seek out a maid in the secure side of the airport and give her whatever small change I have available. She appreciated the gesture very much. Final Price Some online hotel booking sites advertise low prices using Express Booking link. In reality they add “Additional Mandatory Fees” that raises the total price over the ordinary price offered. This is an overt scam that can and should not be tolerated. Our stated price is the price paid. Once again we set the standard for business behaviour. Confidentiality and Security In order to protect identities I only converse with guests in response to a request for information. In addition I suggest that guests use disposable email addresses. In addition I only accept cash which creates no audit trail. Some of my guests have explained that they would lose their jobs if their vacation were discovered. The República Dominicana is a rising tourist destination. If anyone were looking the only information that is available is that you landed in RD one day and you departed RD another. Guests do not actually register at the hotel. I am investigating how to accept credit cards using a third party provider. I will certainly let guests know when the service is available. At the moment I am able to accept payments directed to my foreign exchange service provider through their US Based bank accounts. Please ask if you are interested.
