About the Seminar Peter Becker Community is committed to working with other organizations and faith communities to help older adults have the best life possible. The purpose of our annual Spirit Care Seminar is to encourage and strengthen those who minister to older adults and their families and to thank the many chaplains, pastors and lay people who partner with us in offering spiritual care to the older adults in our community. About Peter Becker Community Peter Becker Community is a continuing care retirement community, which empowers older adults to stay active and independent, along with a full continuum of long-term care that ensures their best possible future. As a not-for-profit community, we focus exclusively on the well-being of our residents. Founded in 1971, our community is an outgrowth of the ministry and values of the Church of the Brethren. U nprecedented numbers of older adults are living longer and facing many financial, medical and housing choices that will significantly impact their final years. Many families are at a loss to know how to discuss and process these new realities of aging. Spiritual care givers are in a unique position to encourage and guide families in these difficult but life-giving conversations. This seminar will lay the foundation for this important work. Seminar Objectives To help each participant: • Understand what prevents us from entering into these conversations and the cost of avoiding them. • Identify the ways spiritual care givers can encourage families to begin the conversation. • Learn to recognize needs and opportunities to start conversations among those whom they serve.
