The Professional Education Division at the University of Minnesota, College of Pharmacy invites applications for the
position of Assistant Dean/Director of TLA. This position will have the responsibility for actively developing and providing
leadership for the delivery of professional pharmacy curriculum to students. The incumbent will engage in activities that
promote institutional effectiveness and student success by enhancing an environment that promotes collegiality and
collaboration by simultaneously delivering curriculum across two (2) campuses located approximately 150 miles apart.
The incumbent will lead efforts in innovative teaching techniques, including blended and accelerated formats, strategic
planning, and supporting faculty and staff in their teaching roles delivering professional curriculum. The Professional
Education Division (PED) provides the infrastructure to support all aspects of the education mission of the College of
Pharmacy. This includes the recruitment, admission, development, and progression of professional pharmacy students,
along with the design, development, maintenance, and implementation of the professional PharmD curriculum. The
incumbent will provide leadership to TLA employees engaging in professional education delivery, such as, instructional
designers and teaching specialists to guarantee appropriate pedagogical tools and standards are available to serve the needs
of teaching faculty and to help ensure student success. Individual responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Overseeing the College’s teaching efforts for professional education, collaborating with the Office of Student Services and
Office of Assessment to develop measures for documenting and improving student success and creating a culture of total
quality improvement (TQI), provide leadership and supervise instructional designers, curriculum support staff, curriculum
coordinators, and information technologists, and foster strategic planning process for innovative teaching and institutional
effectiveness for professional education.
The College of Pharmacy is one of the top ranked in the nation, both in research and education. It is an important part of one
of the largest academic health centers in the U.S., with nationally recognized programs in public health, medicine, nursing,
dentistry, and veterinary medicine.










Applicants should have an earned doctorate degree (Pharm.D., Ph.D., etc.)
Successful candidates must have experience in leading and implementing innovative teaching efforts.
Must have demonstrative experience of active learning techniques and pedagogical teaching methods.
Must have seven (7) or more years of full-time equivalent experience delivering curriculum in a higher education
setting, preferably in a multi-campus institution and/or utilizing alternative delivery methods.
Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in Health Science disciplines, preferably in Pharmacy.
Strong knowledge of curriculum development, implementation, and operations.
Demonstrated evidence of scholarly work.
Interpersonal and communication skills to effectively establish working relationships with faculty, staff, senior
Leadership, and students.
Ability to earn trust and respect amongst highly skilled and passionate professionals.
Background in providing service-oriented leadership to professional employees in a higher education setting.
