Kutztown Area Garden Bus Tour
Cost: $60 per person
The bus will leave from the Berkshire Mall at 8:00 a.m. Parking will be available opposite the Sears
Auto Center. We will be traveling to four private gardens, Countryside Farm and Greenhouse, Pennsylvania German Cultural Heritage Center and Rodale Institute. Lunch will be provided by the Kutztown
Fire Company at their banquet facility. THE BUS TOUR IS NOT HANDICAP-ACCESSIBLE.
While the walking on this tour is not difficult, some gardens are large.
Please wear comfortable shoes and bring rain gear if the weather is threatening.
We will return to the Berkshire Mall at about 5:30 p.m. Our bus tour is always popular and this year’s
garden visitation will continue the tradition of delight and inspiration.
Carol and Ron Bogansky
Carol and Ron have lovingly designed, worked and maintained their 3 acre garden for the past 30
years. What once was a cornfield has evolved into a space that brings peace and tranquility to both
visitors and gardeners alike. Every turn along the pathways will lead you to a new experience. In the
back of the property is a working apiary and honey is always available for sale.
Joanne Lapic and David Miller
Joanne and David’s in-town garden features native Pennsylvania trees, perennials, a patio with
container gardens, herbs, succulents and a bi-level fish pond. The newest addition is a vertical
vegetable garden. Joanne is the owner of Paisley & Company, a bath boutique and fragrance bar
located 2 blocks away on W. Main Street. Gardener’s soaps and other items will be available for sale in
the garden on the day of the tour.
Russ and Carol Schulley
Russ and Carol’s garden is situated on 10.5 acres and is a collection of ornamental trees, conifers and
perennials that have been acquired over the last 30 plus years. When building their home, the site presented the opportunity to use boulders as retaining walls and for terracing several bank areas on the
property. They hit rock while digging the foundation that provided a perfect spot for a garden pond,
plantings along the walkway and a boulder staircase to the lower yard. Having been in the landscape
industry for many years, Russ and Carol appreciate the staged bloom approach to landscaping. Their
goal is to have a host of plants blooming continually to provide interest throughout the year.
Kristen Tuerk
Kris’s small in-town garden, located behind her home at the Creative Art Institute, is an eclectic blend
of shrubs, perennials, herbs, annuals and vegetables with meandering paths that take you on a journey
to restorative niches to meditate, paint or read. Each spot has its own charm, depending on your mood,
sun exposure or just having the ability to be in another world within your own backyard. Raised beds
and vertical gardening came to fruition with the help of her son, Ryan. The gardens’ inspiration helps in
her artistic creations that will be available for purchase on the day of the tour.
