 Volunteer Coordinator & Fall Prevention Lead/AmeriCorps The mission of the Phinney Neighborhood Association (PNA) is to build community by providing programs, services and activities aimed at connecting neighbors and fostering civic involvement in the greater Greenwood‐Phinney‐Ballard community. The PNA Village, a program of the PNA, is an aging‐ in‐community membership program. The PNA Village provides support, expertise, and services to members who want to have the practical means and confidence to live safely and comfortably in their own homes and neighborhoods. Position Overview The PNA Village coordinates access to affordable services provided by volunteers including friendly visits, transportation, home repairs, social and educational activities. In 2015‐16, we will deliver a Fall Prevention training program for the members of the PNA Village with the added feature of offering a home safety check to be conducted by a new volunteer position, Home Safety Volunteer (HSV). The HSV will do a follow‐up home visit with the attendees of the Fall Prevention training using a Home Safety checklist. Essential Responsibilities The PNA Village engages a variety of community members as volunteers who contribute their time and talent to provide services to our members. As the Volunteer Coordinator, member is responsible for maintaining an effective volunteer program including recruitment, training, reporting, surveying, appreciation and retention of volunteers. As the Fall Prevention Lead, member is responsible for research, attending and completing Matter of Balance (MOB) training, delivery of classes to members, and assessing efficacy of MOB classes. Member will also be responsible for implementing the new volunteer position, Home Safety Volunteer (HSV). Volunteer Recruitment, Training and Retention  Recruit and screen volunteers to perform Transportation, Handy Helper, Friendly Visitor and Office Support roles using a variety of strategies. Co‐facilitate and support training of all volunteers. Execute volunteer retention strategies and initiatives.  Develop recruitment plan for new volunteer position, Home Safety Volunteer (HSV); Recruit, train and oversee HSV volunteers. Planning and Implementation:  Assist in implementation of volunteer and member social and feedback events. Plan annual volunteer appreciation event with committee. Volunteer Management and Tracking: 


Regularly update volunteers on member requests/volunteer opportunities through email and online postings. Assign appropriate volunteers to meet member and program needs. Communicate regularly with volunteers through check‐in phone calls, email and personal appreciations for their efforts. Provide assistance and consultation for volunteers as needed and when requested. Oversee work of daily office volunteers. Document and log volunteer hours in volunteer tracking system. Evaluation of Volunteer Activities:  Collect and manage feedback from all parties involved in volunteer activities, including volunteers, members and community members through written reports, testimonials and verbal comments. Share feedback with staff and Advisory Board to acknowledge strengths, successes and to make improvements for future volunteer activities.  Collect data from service reports and other tools, ensuring it’s entered into the database, and generate monthly, quarterly and annual metrics reports. Manage and Deliver Fall Prevention Training:  Attend and complete Matter of Balance (MOB) certification training.  Plan and conduct MOB classes in Fall 2015 and Winter 2016.  Ensure that class participants complete pre/post MOB training assessments and evaluations in order to collect data for quarterly AmeriCorps reports.  Evaluate all training sessions and provide follow‐up support to training attendees as needed.  Conduct ongoing quality reviews and develop plans to improve trainings. Develop and Oversee Home Safety Volunteer (HSV) Rollout:  Develop HSV volunteer position description.  Develop and implement recruitment plan.  Assess candidate fit with position requirements; Interview candidates.  Train HS Volunteers.  Coordinate HSV with MOB attendees for home safety visits.  Gather and report data. Outcomes:  Collect and manage feedback from all parties involved in volunteer activities, including volunteers, members and community members through written reports, testimonials and verbal comments.  Share feedback with staff and Advisory Board to acknowledge strengths, successes and to make improvements for future volunteer activities.  Track and report monthly and quarterly metrics.  Publish annual volunteer report.  Support project evaluation including: Pre and Post member survey; Current member satisfaction survey; AmeriCorps quarterly reporting for primary and secondary outcomes.  Ensure that qualitative and quantitative data is collected for continuous training improvement and for reports.  Utilize data to inform training decisions and recommendations.  Analyze and interpret data from training pre/post tests and evaluations to improve quality of trainings Other:  Attend monthly PNA Village Advisory Board meetings.  Support PNA Village Volunteer and Social Committees.  Prepare, plan and conduct trainings as needed. Set up for trainings and prepare rooms for training including, but not limited to, equipment and moving furniture.  Attend and participate in on‐site and off‐site meetings and committees as necessary.  Provide occasional support for Greenwood Senior Center programs, classes and special events Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience Dedication to volunteerism and coordinating volunteer activities Experience in leadership role Experience recruiting, training, managing, and supporting groups of people to address community needs through service projects Excellent organizational skills, including project management, public speaking, event planning and implementation Previous experience working with older adults highly desired Technical expertise:
 Relevant experience delivering training.
 Solid research skills and instructional savvy to create and present clear and effective instructional content.  Utilize various presentation equipment and media such as DVDs, Internet, computer, and projector to present trainings. Computer skills:  Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office  Demonstrated ability to learn new software and/or database systems Communication:  Strong language and communication skills (written and oral)  The ability to communicate with and empower volunteers to be effective in their roles  Ability and willingness to give presentations to large groups Commitment to service:  Community service experience  Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds  Ability to fulfill a 10.5 month community service commitment.  Enthusiastic and positive attitude towards helping others Professionalism:  Ability to work well independently and on a team  Maturity and good judgment  Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds  Availability, dependability, and willingness to be flexible  Strong administrative and organizational skills, detailed and a respect for process  Demonstrated ability for critical problem solving and to think strategically 
Enthusiastic and positive attitude toward helping others AmeriCorps Eligibility Requirements Selected member(s) should demonstrate the skills and commitment required to successfully serve in the position, serve 40 hours a week and meet the 1700 minimum hour requirement for a full‐time term of service. At a minimum, the following criteria required by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) must be met: 1. Be a United States citizen or lawful permanent resident (must submit proof as defined by CNCS regulation) 2. Be 18‐25 years of age at the start date of their service 3. Pass required National Service Criminal History Checks (NSCHC) 4. Not be listed on the National Sex Offender Public Website (NSOPW). Compensation 1. Living stipend of $1,195 per month provided by WSC (before taxes) 2. Training and experience 3. Health Insurance (member only and only if no other health insurance coverage) 4. Student loan forbearance and interest accrual payment on qualifying loans 5. $5,730 Education Award provided by National Service Trust (upon successful completion of the 10.5 month term of service and 1,700 hours) 6. Subsidized childcare through GAP Solutions Inc. (if qualified) 7. Bus pass Hours /Office Location Hours: Monday – Friday 9 am – 5:30 pm. Some weekend/evening events and meetings. Office Location: Greenwood Senior Center, 525 N 85th Street, Seattle WA 98103 PNA is a welcoming and friendly work environment. Staff get along well and are very supportive of one another. There is a team approach and everyone is expected to help out when needed. The general work environment is respectful and not high pressure, but everyone is expected to follow through on their commitments in an agreed upon timeline.
