CEO introduction
Since joining PHS I have been delighted to learn of
the varied and inspiring work that so many of our
employees undertake in their own time to support
charities and local communities. I firmly believe that,
as a business, we should have a positive impact upon
the wider community and it is therefore heartening
to hear the stories of PHS people who are making a
real different in their areas.
I have been impressed by the huge number of
applications made to our Community Impact Awards
scheme, even if this will have given the Foundation
Committee an even harder job to select the very
worthy winners. This year the Employee Choice
award also gave you all an opportunity to take part in
the selection process and I was pleased to see how
many of you took the time to cast your votes. In fact
we had so many votes for all three candidates it was
felt only fair to give the other two organisations a
runners up award as well.
I wanted to say thank you to everyone who applied
for the award and a much deserved well done to the
11 winners. It is impressive to have such ambassadors
for PHS who work so tirelessly for their causes.
I hope you enjoy reading the enclosed
winner’s stories.

The charity, founded by a mother who lost
her own child very suddenly, works with
local hospitals in South Wales to offer a
broad range of support to parents dealing
with the tragic death of a child. It encourages
bereaved parents to make memory boxes
and PHS’s contribution will help keep up the
distribution of these bereavement boxes in
addition to funding parent support groups.

Silver Ba
The Leadhills Silver Band performs locally
at many community events, such as the
Remembrance Day Parade and carol services.
They currently have members ranging from 7
to 70 years old and the band are committed
to encouraging young people into music by
supporting them through musical qualifications.
Sadly, since the announcement of the awards
we have heard the news of Emma’s passing. As
a token from all of her friends and colleagues at
PHS, the award funds will now be given towards
the purchase of an instrument in Emma’s honour.

Handsworth rugby club recruits members from
some of the most deprived areas of Birmingham
and the Black Country. The club also has a
number of members who are serving police
officers which has led to a focus on promoting
membership to ex-offenders. They believe that
the structure and team work required helps to
increase social skills and aide rehabilitation
back into society. As another of the finalists in
the Employees Choice category, PHS has
provided a runner up award of £250. Your
votes mean that the Rugby Club will now
have money to finally buy essential
equipment for the “Junior” teams.
