California Construction Honors the Best of 2007
Two events in Long Beach and San Francisco award 35 high-profile projects
as well as highlighting the excellence of owners, contractors and designers.
Celebrating the California Academy of Science’s award for Top Overall Project in Northern California, are,

Best of CA 2007 - Award Winners
The keynote speaker at the San Francisco event
was Phil Williams, vice president of systems engineering and sustainable design for Webcor
Builders.
The project team for the Berkeley City College project, winner of the higher education category in Northern
California.
The restoration category winner’s project team worked on the Pasadena City Hall renovation project.
Winning the Best of 2007 award in the residential category are the
Theatre Square team, including, from left, Roger Nelson, president, and
Monica Soiland, vice president of marketing and business development
for Midstate Construction; John Ennis of BDE Architecture; and Mike
Landon, project manager at Midstate.
The winner of the project manager of the year
award was Dennis Breen, project executive at
Clark Construction Group, for his work on the
Pasadena City Hall retrofit project.
The project team for the Los Angeles North Central Animal Services Center, winner of
the Green Building category in Southern California.
Best of CA 2007 - Award Winners
The winner of the redevelopment category in Southern
California was Eastern Columbia Lofts. Accepting the award
are Jack Mollenkopf, project sponsor, Charles Pankow
Builders, Ltd.; and Ken Koslow, director of construction,
Killefer Flammang Architects.
The College of San Mateo Science Building and Planetarium project won an award of merit in the
higher education category.
The Public Owner of the Year winner, Los Angeles Community College
District, was represented by, from left, Brent Hurwitz, BuildLACCD; Nancy
Pearlman, LACCD trustee; Larry Eisenberg, the district’s executive director of
facilities planning and development; and Alex Rosas, BuildLACCD.
Accepting the award for Top Contractor of the Year, are,
from left, DPR’s regional managers George Pfeffer, Jody
Quinton and Rocky Moss.
The project team for the CCP-2 Manufacturing Expansion project in Vacaville
accepts the top award for the industrial/manufacturing category in Northern
California.
The project team for the Miguel Contreras Learning Complex, winner of the overall Best of 2007
award in Southern California, as well as the winner of the Outstanding Architectural Design and
K-12 category awards.
