LORD’S DAY MORNING WORSHIP Songs of God’s House / Jesus’ Songbook April 19, 2015 11 AM Order for the Worship of the Lord Italics are read by the congregation. * Please stand Prelude Music Did Christ Over Sinners Weep *Opening Anthem of Praise and Preparation Al People that on Earth do Dwell *Call to Worship from Psalm 145:17-21 Men: The Lord is righteous in all his ways and faithful in all he does. Women: 18 The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. Men: 19 He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them. Women: 20 The Lord watches over all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy. All: 21 My mouth will speak in praise of the Lord. Let every creature praise his holy name for ever and ever. *Invocation and *Lord’s Prayer: Matthew 6:10-14 Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil for Thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever, AMEN. *Affirming the Faith, Heidelberg Catechism 1 Leader: What is your only comfort in life and in death? Congregation: That I, with body and soul, both in life and in death, am not my own, but belong to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ, who with His precious blood has fully satisfied for all my sins, and delivered me from all the power of the devil; and so preserves me that without the will of my heavenly Father not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, that all things must work together for my salvation, and, therefore, by His Holy Spirit, He also assures me of eternal life, and makes me sincerely willing and ready from now on to live unto Him. *Songs of Praise and Thanksgiving The Same Love Taste and See As Long as You are Glorified Community Announcements NT Reading: James 3:2-18 2 We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check. 3 When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. 4 Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. 5 Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. 7 All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind, 8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. 11 Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? 12 My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water. 13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. 14 But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. 15 Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16 For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. 17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peaceloving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. 18 Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness. Confession of Sin, from Romans 5:8 and Hebrews 4:16 While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, So that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Silent confession of Sin Pastoral Prayer of Praise, Thanksgiving and Requests Offering Gifts of Money *Doxology Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him all creatures here below; Praise him above ye heav’nly host; Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. AMEN. *Prayer to Dedicate Gifts and Money Sermon Text: Psalm 12 1 For the director of music. According to sheminith. A psalm of David. Help, LORD, for no one is faithful anymore; those who are loyal have vanished from the human race. 2 Everyone lies to their neighbor; they flatter with their lips but harbor deception in their hearts. 3 May the LORD silence all flattering lips and every boastful tongue- 4 those who say, "By our tongues we will prevail; our own lips will defend us- who is lord over us?" 5 "Because the poor are plundered and the needy groan, I will now arise," says the LORD. "I will protect them from those who malign them." 6 And the words of the LORD are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times. 7 You, LORD, will keep the needy safe and will protect us forever from the wicked, 8 who freely strut about when what is vile is honored by the human race. Prayer for Illumination Sermon: May He Who Speaks First Get the Last Word Prayer of Dedication *Song of Response Oft in Sorrow *Benediction, from Numbers 6 “The LORD bless you and keep you; 25 the LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; 26 the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.” Dismissal Song All music used by permission: CCLI #269534 Suggested Bible Readings for the Week Monday Psalm 53 Psalm 12 Tuesday Psalm 54 James 3 Wednesday Psalm 55 Numbers 22, 23, 24 Thursday Psalm 56 Jeremiah 24 Friday Psalm 57 John 4 Saturday Psalm 58 Colossians 3, 4 Today at Pilgrim 9:15 Prayer for Lord’s Day ministry and worship. 9:45 Christian Education for all ages, featuring vetted, trained instructors who love Jesus.
