BARBARA WU HEYMAN
Associate Principal
Barbara returned to PlaceWorks after serving as the CEQA manager for the Los
Angeles Unified School District’s multibillion New School Construction Program, a
multiyear capital improvement program to relieve overcrowding. She has 14 years
of experience focused on school facilities planning for the private and public sectors.
Her strengths are in issues identification and strategic thinking, project management,
and client and agency coordination.
Barbara has worked on over 150 school projects with a range of challenges, from
various environmental constraints to political or community sensitivity. She has
managed city, school, and developer joint-use facilities (recreational amenities,
libraries, community centers/multi-purpose rooms); sport complexes; territory
transfers; and surplus real properties. She has also managed risk and safety
assessments for new school site selection pursuant to the California Code of
Regulations, Title 5. As Associate Principal of School Facilities Planning, Barbara
coordinates with multidisciplinary project teams and maintains quality assurance for
CEQA and NEPA documents.
