Season Information
American Legion Baseball is amongst the most historic
amateur baseball leagues in the United States, originating
in 1925. It is the first program in the world to provide a
National Tournament for teenagers. More than 5,400
teams compete nationwide, and more than half of all
current Major League Baseball players participated in
American Legion Baseball.
The season itself for both the Flyers (SR. Legion) and
Millers (JR. Legion) spans about 10-12 weeks over the
Summer months (late May through early August). Both
teams play approximately 30-40 games, competing in
Conference Play during the week and Tournaments on
the weekends. The Legion seasons, in contrast to the H.S.
Spring season, is “game-heavy,” and varies greatly from
competition in the Spring.
The Flyers and Millers teams represent the top-level
of baseball provided by Hopkins in the Summer, and
is geared towards players who wish to compete at the
highest level possible. The seasons are demanding, and
players are expected to make a commitment to their
respective teams, prioritizing baseball above all other
sports. Excused absences from team activities are limited
solely
to
Religion-based,
Familial-based
and
Educational-based activities.

standpoint; and to help prepare our players for
competition at the next level.
Playing time is not equal. With respect to the Millers (JR.
Legion), however, each player may not “sit” for more
than three consecutive games. This is the only playing
time policy enforced by the Coaching Staff’s. There is no
such policy at the SR. Level.
2015 Tryouts
Tryouts for both the Flyers and Millers for the 2015
Season will take place on SATURDAY MAY 2 and
SUNDAY MAY 3, 2015.

Saturday will consist of a Skill Evaluation Day, and
Sunday will be a Controlled Scrimmage Day.
Age eligibility requirements for both SR. and JR. Legion
can be found on the American Legion Baseball National
website, or by clicking on the link below at,

All players residing in the Hopkins School District 270
domicile that meet the aforementioned age eligibility
requirements are welcome to register to tryout (this
includes Private School players who do not have a
Legion Team). All roster decisions are made by the
respective Flyers and Millers Coaching Staff’s.

In the coming months, the Hopkins Flyers and Hopkins
Millers will be getting a custom website designed
specifically for the Post 320 American Legion Teams.
The goal of the Hopkins American Legion Summer
Programs is two-fold: to win and to develop our players
both physically and mentally. Our mission remains to
provide our players with a safe, healthy atmosphere to

player profiles and statistics, and provide parents and
fans with scheduling updates throughout the summer
season, and much more! The site will be a tremendous
tool for all Flyers/Millers parents, fans and followers.
2015 Coaching Staff’s
An integral part of the website will be its capacity for
online player registration. All players who wish to try
out for the 2015 Legion Teams will need to register
online.
The website domain name (url) is in the early stages of
development. Updates will follow in the coming weeks
ahead as to how players can register to be a part of the
2015 Tryout Process.

These fees are due immediately upon team selection
(which will take place 7-10 days following tryouts).
Hopkins Diamond Club
Player Participation Fees go towards helping fund the
expenses of the Hopkins Post 320 American Legion
Baseball Summer Program. The Program itself is funded
through the Hopkins Diamond Club, the governing
body made up of volunteers that dedicate their time and
efforts to ensuring our players gain a positive experience.
A key component of the Diamond Club is in its
fundraising efforts – these efforts are crucial to the
success of the Program. It is an expectation that all
players participate in the fundraising efforts as set forth
by the Hopkins Diamond Club.
Welcome, Mike Perry (GM)
On behalf of the Diamond Club, and the Hopkins Post
320 American Legion Baseball Summer Program, we
welcome Mr. Mike Perry on board as our General
Manager. Mr. Perry will be most involved most notably
with the Millers (JR. Legion) team, and oversee
operations. Parental questions pertaining to the Summer
Program are encouraged to be directed to Mr. Perry.

Mr. Perry has over 35 years of experience/involvement in
American Legion Baseball, in several capacities, and led
the Hopkins American Legion Program for several years
prior to taking on a role with American Legion Baseball
at the State and National level.
