NETS
We have just 3 more net sessions left at the Langton before we start outsides. The next one is on
21st March, then one on the 4th April and the final one on 18th April. Sessions are 5-6pm Under
11’s, 6-7pm Under 13’s and 7-8 Under 15’s.
REGISTRATION EVENING
The outdoor season registration evening will be on Tuesday 21st April from 5.30. I’ve attached the
registration form as a PDF to this email, please print it off, fill it out and bring it along with you to
save time on the evening. Subscriptions are £70 for this year, with a sibling being £50. Please
remember that we don’t charge training or match fees, unlike other clubs, so this will cover all your
activities across the season, including Cricket week in August and the Presentation evening run at
the end of the season. Training will continue each Tuesday from 6pm to 7.30pm, until the middle of
August, weather of course permitting. We will post on our Facebook and Twitter pages, and on the
new website which should be up and running by the start of the season.
VOUCHERS
We are collecting Sainsbury’s vouchers again this year, so please let your coaches have any that
you’ve managed to collect. They all go to helping get kit for the club, so all are very welcome.
TEAMS
This year we have 2 boys teams playing in the Under 11 League on a Sunday morning run by Russell
Griffiths and Russell and Jamie Harris, and one Girls team run by Richard Durrant. There are 2 teams
at U13 level, playing on Friday evenings, one run by Richard Durrant and the other by Karl
Hammond, with some help from Ben Cooper and Andrew Dibiase. Our 2 Under 15 teams will play
on Wednesday evenings, and they’ll be run by Rob Beck and Andrew Newport. Finally the Under
18’s will play on Monday evenings, and that team will be run by Russell Harris.
TRAINING and ASSISTANCE
We are always grateful for any help on Tuesday evenings with training, or match days with Scoring
or Umpiring duties. Please let the coaches know if you are able to help. We’d hope to see some of
the boys and girls that may be too old to now represent the Under 15 teams (although don’t forget
there is still Under 18 league cricket at the club on Monday evenings)
FIXTURES
Our fixture lists will be out very shortly and we will send them round by email as well as hand out the
booklets on the registration evening. We will make every effort to include all of the players in the
matches, and will across the season try to arrange friendlies.
KWIK CRICKET
Saturday morning Kwik Cricket begins on Saturday 2nd May. These sessions will run from 9.30 until
11.30 and will be for 5-10 year olds. It’s a great way to learn about the basics of cricket, and a chance
for the older players to finesse their skills before playing hardball cricket. Please feel free to send this
newsletter round to anyone you know who may be interested in joining in. Sessions are £4.00 per
week, and parents get to sample the “best bacon rolls in Kent” from our kitchen helpers!
DEVELOPMENT
For those of you that have been to Polo Farm over the winter months will have noticed one or two
changes. The cricket pitch behind the trees is no more. The land has been sold off by Polo Farm
Sports Club for development. This has released funding for a new Sports Centre to the far side of the
Tennis Centre. This is a very exciting development for the club in conjunction with Canterbury
Christchurch University which will give us an indoor centre with 10 lanes of Nets and enough space
to play indoor matches over the winter next year. All junior matches will be played on the main
pitch in front of the club house or the new pitch down by the Tennis centre this year.
CRICKET WEEK
A date for your diarys (or holiday) is the week of 10th – 14th August. We aim to play matches against
some further afield teams, and hoping for a return match against Wanstead CC. Further information
will follow once the season gets underway.
NEW COACH
We are delighted to welcome former Kent and Gloucester player Chris Dale to the club. Chris will
play for the mens side, and is a Level 2 coach who will be assisting with our Juniors and is happy to
work with any of the players on a one to one level and will be running a cricket coaching course over
the summer holidays on 17-21 August. More details to follow
GIRLS and WOMENS CRICKET
We are also very lucky this season to have one of the Christchurch Womens Cricket Club players
Sophie Bambridge and an ex-Kent and England Cricketer Susie Rowe coming to Polo Farm each
Tuesday, starting on the 28th April to run starter sessions for women and girls that want to give
cricket a try or get back into it, as well as helping coach the current girls we have at the club.
CRICKETFORCE
Our club is running Cricket Force in the next couple of weeks, on Sunday 29th March from 10 – 3 and
all help would be most welcome. Tim and Stuart are busy preparing a list of works to be done so as
many of you as possible that can help would be appreciated. There will be bacon rolls and a BBQ for
the helpers.
So we just need to wait for the clocks to spring forward and a bit of sunshine and we’ll be up and
running for the season.
Look forward to seeing you all outdoors
Richard Durrant
