Intervention for Individuals with Deafblindness & Additional Issues July 6 – 10, 2015 (8:30 am to 4:30 pm) 30 hours Victory Hill Residences, 4334 Victory St., Burnaby, BC Course Description: Deafblindness is a low incidence disability. Many students who are deafblind also present with additional disabilities and challenges. Intervention is key in working with these students. Intervenors need skills and knowledge to be able to support these students and adapt to unique situations. Objectives: By the end of the course, students will be able to: • Describe Intervention strategies that can be utilized when working with individuals who are deafblind with additional disabilities, including medically fragile. • Express issues about quality of life as they relate to those who are deafblind. • Develop strategies for communicating with health care and educational professionals in a team approach. Course Prerequisites: Introduction to Deafblindness & Introduction to Intervention Fees: $200.00 (Handouts Included) Course Cost Explanation: The majority of these fees for courses in the Deafblind Intervention Certificate Program goes to Douglas College for administration fees and official transcripts. The rest of the fees are used by POPDB to partially cover the cost of licensing commercial videos, purchasing professional books and other resources, deafblind simulation materials, and purchasing videos for distribution to students in the course. Many of the materials and resources used in the Deafblind Intervention Certificate Program courses are unique and from current researchers and practitioners in the field of Deafblindness worldwide (USA & Europe). Accommodation: We are pleased to be able to offer complimentary accommodation for this course at the Victory Hill Residences in Burnaby for the week. Participants must supply their own bedding and towels. There are facilities available for preparing meals -‐ you supply the food.
