Main Street Stakes at Lock 8 Downs “…a world-class sawhorse racing experience… Racing Rules International Sawhorse Racing Rules Race will take place at Lock 8 Park, on Saturday August 1st, 2015 at 11:00 am. All teams must be registered no later than July 15th, 2015. Pre-race check-in will take place on race day at 10:00 am. NO registrations will be allowed after 5:00 pm on July 15th. Section A – Race Team Each team will consist of one “Jockey” and one “Engine” and an unlimited number of off-track race team members All “Jockeys” and “Engines” must be at least 18 years of age “Jockey” is to ride the sawhorse, while not propelling the sawhorse “Engine” is human, and NOT mechanical in nature, to push the sawhorse “Jockey” and “Engine” must be in contact with sawhorse while crossing the finish line Sawhorse, “Jockey” and “Engine” must ALL cross the finish line in order to be considered finished “Jockey” and “Engine” must wear suitable helmets (acceptable helmets include bicycle helmets, hockey helmets, baseball batting helmets, motocross/motorcycle helmets, dressage helmet, etc.) No personnel substitutions will be allowed during race or as heats progress Section B – Sawhorse Length of sawhorse must NOT exceed 72 inches Width of sawhorse must NOT exceed 36 inches Each sawhorse must have not less than three (3) wheels Diameter of each wheel must NOT exceed 24 inches Sawhorse must be completely free-standing Sawhorse may ONLY be propelled by “Engine” of race team Section C – Costumes and Decorations Costumes must NOT bear any profanity or offensive markings Costumes should be used to identify your race team Sawhorse must be decorated prior to race time No alterations to sawhorse decorations will be allowed once team has been checked in Sawhorses MUST race FULLY decorated Sawhorse must NOT bear any profanity or offensive materials Section D – Race Route Race will be a “Barrel Run” whereby all sawhorses will begin behind the start/finish line, race around the barrel back to the start/finish line (see figure 1). Any sawhorse making contact, however incidental, with another sawhorse will be DISQUALIFIED at the judge’s discretion. Figure 1. Barrels Start/Finish Line Other Rules: Prizes will be given to race winners. Races will be contested in heats, with the winners of each heat racing, until the top three sawhorses are determined. Best In Show prizes will be given to the best dressed jockeys, and best decorated sawhorses, as determined by a panel of judges. The throwing of objects/liquids is extremely dangerous and strictly forbidden. Failure to comply will result in disqualification. No alcohol will be allowed at the event. Any team to be found intoxicated will be disqualified and banned from future races. The Sawhorse Race is a family event, all members of each team must conduct themselves appropriately at all times i.e. no swearing, no inappropriate gestures. Race organizers reserve the right to withdraw a team at any point.
