As I understand, it was the Easter Vigil that was the very first Mass celebrated in the new worship space. For those of you who were there, it had to be a memorable night. There was the joy of celebrating Easter as well as the excitement of seeing the completed Church for the first time. th It was my intention to have some new vessels and vestments to use coinciding with the anniversary. But like many things, those plans did not come together in a timely enough way. And yes, there are several items we really do need to replace. We had to borrow a red vestment for Good Friday as the ones we own are in poor condition. I have been working with the Liturgy Committee in trying to find appropriate pieces for our worship space. There are many more options available if we want gold colored vessels. However, the consensus is that silver is a better complement to our Church design, which limits our options. Several people have already expressed an interest in gifting some of the needed items for the Church. Once all the information is gathered it will be provided in the bulletin. Several people have asked if we will be doing something for Sr. Jane Halligan. The answer is yes. We have discussed several possible dates with several different people, and have decided on Tuesday, May 5th, at 7:00PM for a Memorial Mass. I understand Sr. Jane was an integral part of bringing this parish to life, and it is appropriate that she be remembered here. Thank you to all those who showed up last Saturday for the Community Garden clean up. About two dozen parishioners, young and “young at heart” gathered to wake the garden up from its long winter freeze. A tremendous amount of work was done. The garden is off to a good start for providing fresh produce for our Outreach clients and parishioners. As I look for signs of spring, I am delighted that there is an abundance of cardinals (the kind with feathers, not the holy men with red hats) that seem to be nesting around the house. The trees are full of the beautiful bright birds. There also have been a healthy number of rabbits hopping around (which may mean even more are on the way). And, I did see one ornery raccoon. I won’t mind if he moved along in looking for a new home. The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick will be offered after the 9:30 AM Mass on Sunday, May 3rd. 3 SAVE THE DATE! The Magic of Live Theater Here at Holy Cross Plaza Theatrical Productions, Inc. presents: MAN OF LA MANCHA The award winning "impossible dream" musical! Sunday, May 31, 2015 at 7:00 PM TICKETS ON SALE THIS WEEKEND, APRIL 25/26 AT ALL MASSES There is no set price for the tickets, but we ask that you make a free will offering. No offering is too large or too small. This is a fund raiser for the Parish, and there is a significant cost for the performance, but we want every member of the Holy Cross family who wants to attend to be able to afford to do so. Hopefully, through your generosity the Parish will generate a profit. When you buy your tickets we ask that you put your offering, either cash or check made out to Holy Cross, in an envelope and simply indicate the number of tickets you are purchasing. Your offering will be kept private. This promises to be a great Parish event. The performance will be in our Worship Center and limited to 300 tickets, so purchase your tickets as soon as possible! 4 PART-TIME CUSTODIAN WANTED! A custodial position is available at Holy Cross. Primary responsibility includes cleaning and upkeep of building and grounds. Knowledge of building systems, ability to interact with volunteers, organization and planning, and upkeep of machinery is also necessary. Experience desirable. To apply, please email resume to Loretta at [email protected] or mail to her at 95 Old Nichols Road, Nesconset, NY 11767. We need your help so that we can adequately plan to meet the needs of our parish. If you have a child entering First Grade in September you need to register. If you have recently moved to our parish you need to register in the parish. Our program is “home based.” Classes do not take place at the Church; rather they are held in the homes of our Catechists. Because of this, there are geographical limits on who we are able to accommodate. Please contact our office for more specific information. First time registration needs to be done in person at our office. Registration needs to be completed by June 12, 2015. Office Hours: Monday – Friday 9:00-12:00 & 1:00-4:00 If your child was not baptized at Holy Cross you need to bring a copy of your child’s Baptism Certificate. For those who are already part of our program, you need to register as well for the upcoming year. Materials will be sent to your home by the end of April and they may be returned by mail. Please note the deadline of June 12, 2015. A detailed outline of our program is available on-line or at our office. But, there are a few important details to be noted. Children must successfully complete each grade level to proceed to the next. The Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist, and Confirmation require a minimum of two years of preparation. Most importantly, we need to work together. Faithful attendance at classes and parent workshops is essential. As comprehensive and informative as our program is, this is only one part of your child’s faith formation. The greatest thing you can do to nurture your faith and the faith of your child is to regularly be part of our Sunday Eucharist. The Catechism of the Church states that parents have the first responsibility for the education of their children. We are privileged to work with you in this task. We thank you for your cooperation in allowing us to be part of your lives. We look forward to a fruitful year where everyone, young and old, continues to grow in understanding the gift of our faith. 8 9 10 Parish of the Holy Cross Nesconset, New York March 1, 2015 thru March 31, 2015 Dear Parishioners, In an attitude of responsible stewardship and fiscal accountability, we publish a simple reporting of our financial position.
