TRINITY SUNDAY
OUR VISION AT PASADENA PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
We offer sacred space for the city, building a worshipping community whose foundation is the inclusive love of God. Through
the hospitality of Jesus and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we witness to our oneness in Christ by bridging boundaries of age,
language, race, class, culture, gender, and sexual identity. We welcome all people to serve as Christ’s disciples for our diverse
multicultural city and world. By nurturing the mind and spirit, celebrating the creative arts, and engaging in local and global
mission, we proclaim hope.
The flowers in the chancel are given to the glory of God by Alice Saaty
in loving memory of Andy Saaty.

Real peace is not something we automatically wake up with in the morning.
Real peace with God is a verb. It is more often a sweat-blood-and-tears process
that requires of us an active cultivation of our relationship with God.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

SILENT PRAYER
Friends of Music: Afro-Cuban Jazz Project — June 1
Strength for the Journey — Wednesday evening Bible study series
God, our Sovereign, you have graciously entrusted human
beings with your creation and put all things under our
feet; you have crowned your people with glory and honor!
Yet we confess we have exchanged your wisdom
for foolishness, despoiled your earth, allowed evil, and
shunned the good. The love you pour into our hearts
we have allowed to grow cold.
Forgive us, O God, and restore us according to your
divine wisdom, that we may be a delight to you and
rejoice before you always. Amen.

Mozart’s Mass in C, K. 167, was written in 1773 and was premiered at
Salzburg's Trinity Church on June 5
of that year, which was likely Trinity
Sunday that year.
Mozart had just been named
court musician for Prince-Archbishop
Hieronymus Colloredo and was
beginning a prolific period of composition during his time in Salzburg.
This is Mozart's only wholly
choral mass setting, excluding all
solo vocalists.
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in
heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us
our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the
kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
GLORIA FROM MASS IN C, K. 167)............................W.A. Mozart
(MASS IN HONOR OF THE HOLY TRINITY)
(1756-1791)
Sung in Latin.
Translation:
Peace on earth to people of good will.
We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you,
we give you thanks for your great glory,
Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father,
Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son.
Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father,
you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us;
you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer;
you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.
For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord,
you alone are the Most High,
Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit,
in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

OUR GOD, OUR HELP IN AGES PAST ...............................St. Anne
TEXT: Isaac Watts, 1719; TUNE: William Croft, 1708
IMPROVISATION ON THE HYMN TUNE ST. ANNE
The hymn tune St. Anne is attributed to English composer William Croft (16781727) and is named for St. Anne’s Church in Soho, where Croft was organist
from 1700-1711. Although there is no written evidence that Bach heard the
tune, the first eight notes of the theme of his Fugue in E-flat Major duplicate
the opening line of the hymn tune.
